Can anyone tell me the relative load capacities of Disco v Sport ? I love my Discovery and have not had a single problem since delivery last May;however I still worry about the rear end styling. Although styling is a very subjective thing I think the sport is a much tidier use of the Disco platform albeit a shorter version. Has anyone else thought of moving to the 'dark side'? Then you'd be even more worried if you had a Sport.....and nowhere to stand when lamping roos in the bush, either.

I too had thoughts, but after much reflection have found the rear to be very utilitarian and useful. I like to back the D3 up to the shore and just sit on the lowered tailgate, and enjoy some privacy and a great view of the water.

To be honest, a rear that doesn't split would be pretty useless in my view...........

Its funny, but when I first looked at the 3, I had reservations about the split affair, now I am totaly convinced, its great. No more getting wet.
My only problem is that I cannot reach the furthest extremities of the boot area without climbing in - but then again the car is obviously designed for overgrown people, not normal people like me

ALR,
Like your thinking there mate. Sounds good - privacy and a good view.
The RRS is a great looking car but not at all practical when compared to the D3 / LR3 (translation for ALR there).
Great for picnics, sitting the kids on while putting on their wellies / taking off the soon to be dirty wellies etc etc.
RRS boot door is just like a big hatch backs... not nice and not useful apart from making a big hole to put things into.

We have owned a Disco 3 for a year now (the wifes car - with which I have been mightily impressed) and I recently bought a RRS (to replace a Merc estate). In my opinion the Disco 3 is a better car than the RRS. The Disco 3 has a greater range of abilities than the RRS (it does everything the RRS does but then a good deal more). I think the D3 is a better design with more user friendly and imaginative touches than the RRS and, to cap it all, it is cheaper. The RRS is still a darned good vehicle, IMHO it just lacks some of the D3's charm, effectiveness and range. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

I have found that it also makes a great diaper changing station!

I considered both cars before ordering the Disco. It was really hard to deceide, but in the end the more practical load area of the Disco helped me make my mind up. The load space height of the RRS was one inch less than I needded (to carry bicycles inside the car).
Also, if you are more than 180cm tall, you will have to move the drivers seat forward in order to fold the rear seats. So if you are tall, the RRS is really limited to the space available with the seats up.
My girlfriend liked the RRS, except for the rear end, so YMMV...

I think Clarkson had a point, buy the RRS (which I do like) and you will always be wishing you had the real RR. The split tailgate is another big issue for me, although I agree with Gareth reaching in can be a struggle for normal 5'4" people
The D3 has its rear end and the RRS has a problem above the bonnet, there is a big ugly gap! But we are all different, I'd have either but given the choice D3 wins, although a RR could tempt me! DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

If you're having problems reaching things at the back of the Disco get one of those boot space sliding floors, The small wife loves it. HSE TDV6 Silver : "Avin it large"

You can't use the 3rd row seats though, which I need to use regular.
