Roof Racks - an alternative |
|
Here's an idea I am using.
I have fitted the D3 roof rails.
These rails are quite substancial and as long as your load can span the gap between & is fairly rigid they are all you need. However securing the load may be a problem. This is where my idea comes in.
I have acquired some of the Mac's Custom Tie-Downs Anchor Plate Assembly Kit see https://www.expeditionexchange.com/tiedowns/
I have trimmed the back plate so that it fits nicely into the roof rail & shortened the securing screws to suit.
I just slide the unit in to the rail in a position to suit the load , tighten the screws, and lash away.
Alternatively , when going out kitted to "off road" I will secure things like the waffles & highlift on the roof with the same gear.
Cheers

Will try and sort pix soonest.
Ref the H/Lift.....
I will be having an ARB on the front soon & am trying to sort something for the rear based on the 2inch receiver for the back.
Plus.... most often the high lift gets used on some one else's motor of for other problems.

Nice tip, Nick - look forward to a picture or two.
I also like the Hella horn that can be found on the LR3 page along with the rings. Tempting just to see my partner's reaction when she first uses it. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

OK boys & girls, here you go , as promised some pictures of my take on an alternative roof mounted cargo system.

Use the link, please excuse the use of this web site, but as web editor it was the easiest way I could think of...
See what you think.
I am trying to locate a value for money source for these things. At present they are a bit too pricey. I got these in from a guy I use the US.
Cheers

That's a neat job, Nick.
