Mult Height Towbar Towball Height?

Can anyone who tows (horseboxes mainly) tell me what height they have their tow ball set at? My dealer fitted one is set at 350mm which is way too low, 450mm looks to be the height I need.

generally they're 400 or 450 ISTR 450 being more the std.

Easy to change on the MH though, you just undo the bolts & move it up Thumbs Up

The answer may be within this thread http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic27141.html but to summarise, 400-450 appears to be the correct height for an Ifor horse box.

Martin, and Moderators

Could a sticky be made from questions relating to Tow ball heights, as there seems to be a lot of questions and answers weekly now on setting heights?

450 is the proper height especially for ifor williams trailers.Any lower then this height and the trailer will "snake".
Hope this helps...

You're not towing an Equitrek by any chance are you?

Ours seems to sit a bit nose low on the Disco (removable tow hitch). The ball height is about 16 inches. On our old Isuzu it was just over 18 inches and the trailer was level on that.

There are no shims on the Equitrek hitch so we can't adjust it to make it any lower.

Hi all,

I have just fitted a multiplate towbar on the D3, it seems by the symbol on the plate that the ball can only be attached to the bottom two holes (with the top 4 for fixing it to the rear section) or turned upside down and the ball attached to the top two (with the bottom 4 for fixing it to the rear section).

So I thought I'd be clever and remove the plate and fix the ball to the bottom row of the rear section but again found a symbol that says the ball can only be attached to the top pair??

Does anyone know why this is??

Has anyone just ignored this and stuck the ball to the height they wanted anyway??

Cheers

The "do not do this" symbol is for a pin/eye connection - not a 50mm ball. You can attach your ball in any combination and keep the full 3500kg capacity

Admittedly I haven't seen this at all as I'm yet to get my D4 but hypothetically which level would be correct for a ball and pin type hitch.

I assume (without looking) that the ball is higher on the ball and pin than on a ball only hitch? If this is the case I would guess at wanting the middle bolt holes, am I right in thinking that this isn't possible withe the multi-height hitch? Or have I got this completely wrong?
