Manual mechanical handbrake conversion?

OK seems like a crazy idea but would it be possible to operate the EPB via a conventional lever? I am sure there are a few engineers on here that could fabricate a mount point etc. Jokes apart I really would be interested to know if this could be done.

I think x-brake were working on one a while ago. Not sure if it's seen the light of day yet though.

Has anyone thought of a way to stop mud interfering with the mechanism? Gortex filter material?

Good News!!

Well almost, the nice people at X-Brake have designed a disc and calliper for the D3 to act as a park-brake, the only problem is how to actuate it. Anyone got any ideas about where a mechanical lever could be installed (RLD aka Ray - this is your speciality Smile )

There's a handy electrical cable tensioner somewhere near the rear cross member Whistle

Maybe just maybe by just getting rid of the crappy zero friction shoes but keeping everything else it'll be nirvana without leaky holes in the bodywork for the cables?

EPB motor is apparently not powerful enough to activate the X-Brake calliper Sad

Ray - if the manual brake was supplementary (ie leave the EPB in situ) would you still need type approval?

Some would say the same is true of the original design Rolling Eyes

Historically, disc-based handbrake = bad idea. I wonder what they've done to overcome this.
