Kenwood 421 (was in "are there any new deals...")
I know, life is all an anti climax really. Day I paid off the mortgage, so what, etc. Th only thing that gave me any pleasure was 10 years ago, when I divorced my last wife, then married my next, so instead of a maintaining a wandering cart horse who would go with any one, I ended up with a loyal babe, half her weight!

Grantown must be pretty dead then? Nearest I get to that town is Landmark at Carrbridge.
Anyway, I shoved a photo of the vehicle taken on Thursday under my pics. I can do that without risking my identity as the chrished plates arn't on it. [/img]

You must be the last Tescos customer, I've gone to Morrisons now, but thanks for the greeting.
Now I am up and running with the Discovery, I have found out that it gets a lot of looks and it appears to attract boy racers who either follow me or are on for a race. In fact it got all a bit spooky on Friday at Tescos in Dingwall when one guy followed me all round the car park and when I pulled in to loose him, he merely parked at the back of me. I didn't know if I was going to get mugged or rammed!
Got the thing from MacRae and Dicks. Despite searching for the best price on autobid etc. I went in armed with the cheapest price I could find and they beat it after the sales managerand a senior salesman sat with me for over an hour whilst I pleaded I was a poor person. Absolutely no concessions apart from a couple of key rings, which I have to say are quite nice.
I am pretty hot on Satnav and electronics. Converted the 2008 FL2 to Kenwood 421 hard disc navigator and you can see that sticky on mods if you visit the FL2 site - very detailed. Far superior to the LR factory fit stuff and a lot cheaper.

Seen that.. but lots of talk of fitting ...no talk of what it actually does When I talk to my premium nav ...I say "Navigation ...I'm hungry" ...and all the restaurants poi's appear Does it do that ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yep, has a break down of all POI, restaurants, cinemas, petrol stations etc. Off the top of my head, 20 odd cats and you can add your own to it. There are plenty of sites that you can download free POI depending on if you how obsure you like your POI or you can subscribe to Safety Camera Databases. All you do is take your laptop out to the car and download it straight onto the Kenwood. The main screen lights up that a data transfer is taking place and asks for a Nav reboot and thats it. Alternatively, save to a memory card and pop it in. I'd check out the Kenwood site for all the functions, but if I can help, just ask. Also works in multistory car parks, think it estimates where abouts you are in the thing depending on last known speed/direction. Once it's back in the open, less than 2 seconds later, it has updated your position.

When I say talk I mean "talk" Voice control on the Premium Nav is superb 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Having a thick moment, NO it won't accept voice commands, well, to my knowledge. They are always coming out with new things. But you can use it as a hub to control a reversing camera as well as rear DVD players or Freeview TV etc. all via touch screen control. That said, the premium LR SatNav is about 2k's worth of kit, whereas the Kenwood list is £700-800, but you can get it discounted to roughly £330 for the SatNav Hard Disc and £150 for the 7" screen. In these credit crunch times........

Make sure you take lots of pic's of the work and create an easy to follow guide. I'm sure others will be very interested.
I'm still having a huge conversation with myself whether to go down the Kenwood route or to install this Pioneer AVIC unit which is designed specifically to 'piggy-back' on the factory fitted audio system.
