1) My D3 MY06 has now done 78K miles of which I have driven the last 2.5K miles, will the gearbox have now adapted to my driving style?
2) These clever people with the right equipment can remap my engine management, can anyone alter the gearbox software? I really want it to be able to change up into 6th gear at 48-50mph instead of 55mph. My entire journey to and from work consists of roads with a maximum 50mph speed limits with speed cameras so it never changes up into 6th gear. If I use Command Shift I can force it to change up at 52mph but it changes down immediately I drop below 50mph even downhill. I know people say 2000rpm is the most fuel efficient, but 1500rpm in 6th saves me 4mpg on my daily commute. It’s such a pain using Command Shift all the time, might as well have got a Manual!!

TFC will probably be able to advise better, but I think the added torque lower down the range might help you keep it in a higher gear for longer, althoiugh you may still need to use command shift at such a low speed.... Bodsys Brake Bible

Sounds as though no amount of increased engine torque is going to change this, and changing to RRS tyre size isn't going to make enough difference. Modified transmission ecu parameters required?

I'm sure i remember reading something about the alternator needing a minimum revs to be able to keep the car powered.

The gearbox constantly adapts to driving style. So, when you're out on some remote winding road, doing your best imitation of this RRS at Nurburgring, its changing the shift maps to minimize vehicle stance changes on turn entrance and exit, keep the current gear through the turn, and maximize torque output on turn exit (of course, other vehicle systems are doing their part too). Then, when you enter the sleepy village and drive like the right upstanding gentleman you are, it changes the shift maps again to the early-shift, low revs response, so that the locals can admire the fine manners of that vehicle.
AFAIK, no one yet has introduced a re-map of the TCM. It would be a difficult re-map, as there are many real-world situations to account for that are more heuristic than logical.
The gearbox does have a special mode initiated when you use cruise control that will minimize gear changes, but I don't know if you're just-at-that-threshold where, even with CC, the gearbox would put it in 5th and leave it there.

Collected my D3 from the dealer's today, had it in to solve a weird problem.
They told me they had updated gearbox software, this being an update that has been available since a week ago.
Anyone knows what it is, does or solves?

I suspect that LR has set the change point to ensure that the gbox does not constantly change when used in the 50mph zones. Imagine what it would be like if it changed up at 45mph on light throttle, then down again the moment a little more throttle was used, then back up as soon as the throttle was released a little - probably much worse than just staying in a slightly lower gear and better for the longevity of the gbox clutches too.

I'm pleased about this, not yet wearing a permagrin but would like to be able to just amble along in these speed zones as I do in my manual D2.
