Big Thankyou
Just a note to let you all know that I'm very greatful . I nearly purchased a D3 but having read all your posts over the past two months I have decided (because of D3 faults) to stick with my car and the old Defender that I have .
I still admire the D3 and feel slightly jealous when seeing one drive past but I only have to remember this forum and all manifestations of jealousy evaporate
Thanks gents - I saved a fortune .

PS if i ever get one , please dont remind me of this message .

Just in case the other posts make you think you might change your mind...read on.
4500 miles. New Turbo. New Handbrake shoes. New wheel Sensor. New Lower Steering Rack. Clutch Rebuild. New Gaerbox. Back in garage today with suspension failure. In four months total so far of 28 days off road... in the garage.
They have ordered me a new one but I would rather have my money back and buy another Toyota.
Friday afternoon car!Loving the power of the TDV8!

EJ,
I fully understand you. I was kept 6 months away from D3 due numerous reported faults. After gathering some while for information about faults, I noticed that they appear mainly to consentrate on air suspension and infotainment.
Guess what, I bought Base model with coil springs and I have had zero issues Okay, mine is just one month old and some 2000km in speedometer but only thing that I'm suffering is perma- like TFC
Good luck with your decision - I would still have second thoughts

Thats a shame - because in general what you see on forums like this is a skewed view of the world - people tend to voice issues much more loudly than voice how wonderful the car is.
I've had mine but 3 weeks, AND its been in to the dealer for 2 days to have a sensor changed during that time but it is still a BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL car - the permagrin comments are no joke!!!
Go test drive one. You may yet change your mind... ...hope you do!Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Piero how could you tell the Turbo needed changing, was it something that just failed or were there small signs of impending failure?

I have been told that if the Sensor replacement doesn't fix mine then a Turbo replacement is next - I was getting 'Engine Managment Fault' warnings and two complete power failures where the engine just fell back to idling before a switch off switch on - anyway, enough of that - its still the BEST car I have ever owned too!! I was also concerned after reading postings on here!
3500 miles later no problems - other than envious glances from Jap 4 x 4, ML and XC owners.
Forums are a fantastic source of information and support from other owners, however you will allways get an unbalanced view if you research a product via this media, most peoples reason for posting is they have a query/question or problem. How many of us post something like this:
"Started car at 07.30 pressed the auto defrost button and heated seat button,
07.31 screen was clear and seat warm. I chose an old Reef CD to listen to whilst marvelling at the view over the hedges. Dropped an oil pump into a customers and left. Carried on to work hopeing for some bad weather, snow or torrential rain I don't mind which. 09.15 arrived at work. 13.30 took her out for a spin down the coast, noticed that "The Sandgate Hotel"(Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares - last night) is now closed. 14.00 back at work."
That's my day so far, only made slightly less tedious by virtue of my mode of transport. Wifes turn tomorrow my turn in the b****y boring BMW sigh!
Great forum by the way 8)Some say the glass is half full. Others that it is half empty. I say 'Are you drinking that?"
