Roof boxes

With my ever increasing family I need to find a roof box for the Disco3. Now I know the width of the roof bars has been a problem previously, can any body give me some specific recommendations?

Thanks.

The Land Rover 450L roof box is OK. Opens both sides like many modern boxes. It's £282 before any dealer discount.

The sports box is 400L and £259 before dealer discount.

I thought you could use any box with the original bars with t-bar adapters?

I don't have LR bars (although I do have them on order) but I gather that they have a slot running down the full length (under a strip). You slide a t-bar (which is just an screw with a square or rectangular end and a large wing-nut) into the slot and place the roof box on the top, with the screw sticking through the corresponding hole. The wing-nut or similar is then tightened from inside the 'box.

This way the box is secure and you get very clean lines, with no visable clamp (and no clamp damage to the finish of your bar).

A Thule kit is now available for the Disco 3 which I understand fits into the existing 'tracks' to which the bars attach. I can't send you the link right now as it's on my work PC. I'll see if I can find the link in a moment.

The Thule Bars are 'normal' width, in fact the bars from by D2 will just transfer onto the new foot pack. Allowing me to use my old Thule roofbox.

I've bough stuff from the formula4x4 site and they seem a good bunch who have not let me down. Also with the Thule stuff you can move some of it from car to car.

The original bars can also be bought on e-bay, brand new at a buy-it-now price of £110 (+ £10 p+p) from Yeovil Land Rover. Or you can just phone Nick in the parts department direct on 01935 476660 for the same price.

I went for the OEM factory look, because I am vain.

There is a new adaptor kit from Thule to allow roof boxes with the narrow u bolts to fit new wide bars. I bought it today from The Roof Rack Shop 01506418218 £22. I'll post photos when it arrives. BP

This sounds promising. I am also vain enough to prefer the LR bars if I can get my Thule Box to fit onto them. Very Happy
