Q from a newbie! Whats this pictures & what's it for....

Seen this device on Range Rover Sports but my bro's 54' Disco 3 HSE doesn't have it, my 09' GS Disco 3 does......whats it for and whats the benefit & why do some Disco's have it and otehrs don't.....?

Huge thanks for any help to all Disco 3 guru's,

i got one of them but mines battered to f Censored k from offroading
think its to protect the spare or maybe for wind/air flow but either way i dont think its meant to have chunks missin out of it Rolling with laughter

spare wheel shield from exhaust gases heat but not sure whether needed as my never been even warm from pipes

I'll keep it on and get it ragg'd up a bit.......

Looking for some front seat covers and mud flaps (OE for the flaps) any advice.......just been scanning the 'For Sale' section. I'm noticing a few differences with part numbers for 09MY swag. Typical!
