You can't retro-fit the LR system - would require new ECUs, new wiring loom etc.

Well, "can't" is a strong word, but you'd be talking thousands

You're better off with a Garmin or TomTom etc.

Less expensive, up-dateable maps, firmware, speed cameras, POI's etc.

And can be used in the dealer loaner when the D3 needs attention Whistle

Thanks for the responses - i was more interested in the off-road satnav comapss and and the terrain response stuff - but if it cant be done - without a huge amount of effort and expense etc

Is there a tool which will give me the off road satnav and electronic compass etc etc - which will fit in that little slot where the on-board sat nav is seated.

If you want offroad navigation the offroad nav isn't a massive amount of use - it's more a vehicle systems display tool than anything.

One of the easiest options would be to get your hands on a 9" or smaller netbook running XP, a Lilliput USB touch screen and a copy of Memory Map or Fugawi. The screen can be mounted in the cubby hole, the netbook in the top glovebox or mounted under the passenger seat and the GPS nubbin can be mounted anywhere you want with a long enough USB lead. Compass isn't as good for obvious reasons - no gyro on your laptop - but the setup will give you a "heading" line on the OS mapping from Fugawi/MemMap.

If you're going to use this overseas, you'll want Fugawi. If UK only, get hold of Memory Map

Or for truly effective software, go for "Oziexplorer" ( www.oziexplorer.com ) - well regarded internationally.
