Muppet indeed!
If you didn't start it up you'll probably be OK, fingers crossed! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I did this with a courtesy car! They sent a recovery vehicle to collect it, but you have to switch on the ignition to release the e-brake (unless you go through all the rigmarole of removing the panel in the centre console and releasing it manually. To be honest, it's such a long way from the tank to the engine that switching on the ignition, and therefore primingt the fuel pump, is unlikely to cause any damage, as the pipes would have been full of diesel.
I also once did this to my old Disco. Realised after I'd put in £10 worth of petrol, so I just filled it to the brim with diesel - no damage done.2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

My other half did the same with one of our business vans (Renault Kangoo). She drove it 20 miles to her mums house and then found it would not start. We had it trucked back to a mechanic friend who flushed the fuel system, fitted a new fuel filter and reset the fault codes on the engine ECU. Now 10,000 miles on and no problems at all.
We were lucky, and I would not suggest for a nano second that anybody should attempt to start the TDV6, an altogether more complexed beast.TDV6 SE auto, Java / Alpacca
