Rumoured rear brakes Recall Notice 2009 ? |
|
Has anyone heard about a possible recall on the Discovery 3.
I had heard throught the grapevine that they were about to recall for a fault in the rear brakes.
I have already sent mine to an independant garage to get sorted as the rear parking brake had disintegrated.
Just wanted to check if this is true before i go to the main dealer (who tried to fix the same fault 4 times and failed) I love my LDR3...

That would be great if they did, but I think it's just a hopeful rumour from everyone who's ever suffered..... Bodsys Brake Bible

Interesting!
my D3 has just come back from Hunters after having the screaming EPB fixed, (they commented on the amount of sand that came out of everywhere!!) So I dropped off the blingy FFRR with white leather seats (yuk) and TDV8 (mmmmmm yes please) and trundled odd in said D3, got home and noticed that they have replaced both back discs - they never mentioned it but I was in a bit of a rush. Yhe old ones had only done 8000 miles and I'm certain that if they were grooved after all the sand I would have got a bill so perhaps there is a recall on the discs containing the brake drums and they did it at the same time??....I will buzz them when i get a chance.

Can I recommend you all hold your horses...there no recall notice on GTR and even if there was it has to be rolled out through the dealerships which can take a while to put into action. You would get a letter dropping through your door too ! 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The screaming EPB can cause damage to the inside of the rear disk (actually the drum component) and the entire brake needs to be replaced;- in which case both rear ones need to be replaced to keep from sideways grabbing. I had a major EPB failure leading to a bit of a fire (brake lines, smouldering fuel line sleeves, with 190 litres of petrol on board). Both brakes were replaced (in my case, so were slightly burned rear axles, fuel tank gaskets, etc). Having a D3 always leads to some interesting tales.
