Thanks very much. As you said the cable was loose as the connection had broken at the L end. I have got the tailgate open and the large barrel BBQ out of the disco and into the garage awaiting sunny weather. It's a very cold day up here in South Uist in the Hebrides and I am so glad to get the job done thanks a lot. I have rigged up a temporary manual system with a piece of thick green garden wire attached to the cable end with a few tight twists and then passed a thin stiff plastic hose over the wire out through the top edge between the carpet and the lower tailgate to avoid angulation of the wire. A wee lub with WD40 down the hose and the wire moves well inside the hose. I now have a functioning manual upper tailgate opener. At least it allows me to use the tailgate and I hope will suffice until I get it fixed properly. Time for a late lunch and thanks again. Norman

Beachboy,
Mine went the same way on Tuesday. £22 for the new part and about an hour to do the fix.
Hardest part is getting hold of the wire to give it a tug to open the tailgate. D3 06 HSE Java Black

Stupid question time but the brain freeze has set in, the trim I need to remove on the inside to get the tailgate open is it on the upper or lower half of the tailgate also has anyone found that using the "simutainiously pressing the master look & unlock for 3 seconds " method to work, as described in the handbook.
Dosent in my case

Can anyone tell me how to get into the boot which is now stuck closed? I have a boot liner, a huge box in the boot and a full-height dog guard fitted. I can hear the actuator moving, so I assume (from other posts) that the cable end has snapped.
Just when I thought I was going to have a breakdown-free week for a change.
Bloody marvelous...

Ok, I now have the rigid carpet board loose on the bottom part of the boot, I have cut through the foam covering to expose the actuator and can see where the cable sheath goes into the gold coloured plate.
There is a grey plastic cover over it which I have pushed half-off with a screwdriver, but it won't come off completely. This is the part which is then covering what I need to get to. Any ideas please???
Is there anything stopping us from cutting the cable and sheathing and thereby getting hold of the inner cable to give it a pull? This would only by possible if one was to replace the unit obviously
Please help!
Thank you

You can probably cut the cable, or try to peel the housing back from the cable and pull it, but it's probably easier just getting a set of pliers into the box and grabbing the cable to pull it. I worked it so I had a pair of pliers straddling the cable with my right hand and holding back the cover to the box. With my left hand I stuck a finger in the box and felt for the cable, and then guided the pliers to the cable to make the pull. Difficult but doable. Afterwards, I cut off the end of the plastic housing, so if I ever need to go back in and pull the cable, I won't have to mess with the black cover, just reach in with pliers and pull. Good luck! We have done a few know, just cutting the cable is by far the easiest way, some cable cutters from your friendly bike shop (yes, bike shop) are the best bet !
