MPG Trip Computer Doesnt always Lie

Have read that the trip computer can exaggerate by up to 4 MPG.

Have done a brim to brim test over 150 motorway miles. Trip said 38.8 MPG.

Actual figures 150 miles used 17.4 litres (3.83 gallons) = 39.16 MPG.

Manual, keeping to around 65 MPH on motorway.

wish it was me,use my auto for a six mile commute and the car tells me I'm getting 26.4 mpg but the filling station pump tells me its nearer 22 mpg. Sad

how does the mpg computer work ??

Does it work of the senders in the tank or the fuel injectors ??? Got our Disco... Love it.....

I find that as long as you brim the tank to the top of the filler neck each time it is pretty accurate (usually within 0.1/0.2 of a cal).....I think part of the issue maybe the 5 litres of so between the pump cutting out and fuel appearing at the top of the filler pipe end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
