HDD Satnav wiil it have all of Europe built in?? |
|
Hi Everyone,
Will the sat nav contain the whole of europe on the hard drive, or will there only be the country that you bought the car in ?
previous threads have said that the nav will be upgradeable by the dealer, does this mean we would have to pay for additional countries, regions etc.
Will it be 3d like in the A6 HDD sat nav

According to the tech from Gaydon we spoke to the HDD SatNav in the D4/RRS/FFRR will have updates delivered over-the-air similar to TMC The End

So does this mean that the maps come preloaded? And what happens if someone wants to travel abroad? If I buy my D4 in West Europe and travel to East EU how would I upgrade to the East Europe version?

Yes this is just the point I am trying to clarify. Will the HDD have the whole of europe on it if you got it in the uk, or will maps of mainland europe be optional ?????.

...and if "over the air", surely that implied a GSM link being activated???
Nokia has a similar system (though you can optionally upload the maps through PC Suite), where it prompts to download the relevant maps for the region the phone is in. In small countries such as Greece, it's a single ~20MB file but the UK for example has several... Am thinking LR may be striking a deal with a mobile operator

None of the literature I've seen specifies if it does or not.
Does the standard DVD based Sat Nav inc Europe ?? If yes, then unless LR want to have a pricing model like TomTom and charge for regional maps, then I would guess it does. Your local dealer may already have the information to hand if you ask then.
This is all the launch Spec.pdf says on the matter...
Quote:8.4 Hard-disc Drive Navigation
Hard-disc drive navigation (HDD) is introduced with increased speed and new user graphics and
display. HDD stores more data than previous DVD systems and customers can upgrade mapping
data via Land Rover dealer electronic service systems (further information regarding the process to
be released in due course). Premium navigation continues to deliver the same incremental benefits
of off-road navigation, traffic messaging via TMC, voice activation and 4x4 info.

A UK bought D3 has only the western Europe maps DVD, if you were to travel to Greece for example you would have to pay for the "complete" two-DVD set that covers the Balkans and Greece (at £250 no less!!!)
Ironically, a mate who bought his in Greece had the same western Europe DVD....

Thanks martin
I had an old navman and you had to buy every country.
Least I know the sat nav in the D4 will be similar to the "old" D3
Enjoy the D4!
Cheers

Im working on a 4x4 info soloution and trying to answer the question about nav upgrades/changes.
Hopefully soon i will have some more answers.
My IDS dealer diangostic tools have the nav upgrade function built in them.
I get my car on the 28th of December so i will be investigating it then.
