Has anyone seen one of these, or even got one? Are they good quality or would a decent tent be better?

Got one, well-made, looks good, LR branded, sturdy, rigid, ....... but useless.
It's bulky, no groundsheet and if you read the accompanying Health & Safety that comes with it, you'd be worried about even standing inside.
There are MUCH better tents on the market and better priced too.
Were you looking specifically to attach it to the car? D3 HSE V8...

There are a couple of alternatives - I've seen them advertsied in the back of some of the Landrover magazines, but would need to look for specifics.
I know one is Caranex (not sure of the spelling), but I'm sure google will help.
I'll have a dig tonight and pst unless someone can help you out beforehand. D3 HSE V8...

THere are other options.
I have a 'Caranex' tent that attaches to the back of a LR (or any car really).
It has a decent sewn-in groundsheet and 'standalone' kit too.
It has worked well for years with my old 90 and Galaxy- has been used all over UK & Continental Europe.
Their own info can be seen at: http://www.ukbizlist.co.uk/caranex/fitting.html
Note that it is a single skin tent, rather than a 'normal' inner + outer tent. We used to get some condensation in the mornings, but nothing too bad. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

Just found this thread and I like the look of the 'tentsaway' item. I was bidding on the genuine article (ebay) and just rushed there to see if my £200 bid had been acceptable. Fortunately, I have lost-out on the ebay one which has sold for £310!!! I reckon the tentsaway people will be getting a call soon

The home page says massive discounts for multiple orders.
Perhaps you should get together. Zermatt silver 06 reg.

Just found out something else:
* Duty, VAT & Clearance may be payable to Customs & Excise when your package enters the country prior to delivery to you. Customs and Excise may contact you direct for payment.
Looks like 'tentsaway' are not really selling these after all - just profiting from being a middle man.
The above statement has been found on Googles cache of their web-page but I notice that it has been changed on the real-time page........
I smell a bit of a rat here

The model I'm looking at 'inc. all duties, taxes and delivery to your door!'
However if you look on Ebay you can 'buy it now' for around £125, this is excluding Duty, Tax and postage. I have asked a seller to do the numbers....
