| Disco4 / LR4 reliability - let's get better info |
|
I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So in late 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to provide quick results for new models then track the cars closely as they age.
We've been providing reliability stats for the Disco3 / LR3 for a while now. I'd like to do the same for the Disco4 / LR4--just a matter of getting enough owners involved.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the LR4, for free.

Most likely we'll have an initial stat for the LR4 in August. If enough owners sign up and participate, this will be a full result. Otherwise, a partial result.
The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

27 LR4s now signed up. A very good start. A few more will likely be needed to provide a full result in August.

We'll have an initial result next month, and hopefully a full result with the next update, in November.
We're currently five responses short of the minimum for a full result.

That initial result in just a day or two.
31 owners now signed up. With 40+ we'd likely have a full result with the following update, in November. TrueDelta.com

We have an initial result for the LR4 based on owner experiences through June 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.
With a repair frequency of 39 repairs per 100 cars per year, the 2010 LR4 is about average, but close to "better than average." Much lower repair frequency than the 2005-2006 LR3 (no stats for newer years yet).
This is based on a very small sample size. We'll have a more solid result with the next update, in November.
Everyone who has been helping, thank you. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise results.

Updated reliability stats based on considerably more data this month.
As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

We have an updated result for the LR4 based on owner experiences through September 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next year.
With a repair frequency of 39 repairs per 100 cars per year, the same as last time, the 2010 LR4 remains about average, but close to "better than average." Much lower repair frequency than the 2005-2006 LR3 (no stats for newer years yet).
Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise results.

We have updated results for the LR3, to include owner experiences through June 30, 2011.
Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2008: 150, worse than average, small sample size and less precise than the other two results
2006: 82, about average
2005: 115, worse than average
The new LR4 is doing much better, and has been consistently close to the average.
We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants we could provide more precise results and cover all model years.

Both are "about average," though at different extremes of the range.
