Roof rack basket
I have bought roof rails and bars, now looking for a roof rack platform/basket, I have seen one that doesn't look to utilitarian or flash and have put in a link below, any views or advice on this orr other options? There is another one called Polaris on the site but that looks a bit cumbersom. It seems a fair price for something I will only use a few times a year compared to the expedition ones at big bucks.
There are baskets for Oz Tents which may fit the bill, try BOAB.

DiscoDrei - I Second CG's post. The one in the link looks small even on smaller vehicles in the link. It will be tiny on a D3. You need to be careful about strength as well.
Was about to buy the large platform @141 gbp. (Ronp has pictures of the medium one in his gallery) but managed to get a proper half-rack instead. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Thanks, I have looked but I must say they look like shopping baskets I will research them further as the price you quote seems good. The one I saw was about 120cm x 120cm which is quite big, there is a medium one on the site you gave which is 130cm, I only have the two bars so will have to ensure I don't go too big.

Well...your thread is titled "Roof Rack Basket"... So I'm now unsure as to what you are asking and what you want...
But BOAB do supply "flat" platforms. Did you scroll down the page...?
The largest platform will easily be supported by two roof-rails.
Depends what you want to carry at the end of the day.The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

The term basket seems to be used for the ones that are not baskets as well like the link I put in, perhaps they should be called platforms or something, still not discounted the one you showed me, at least my shopping should be OK

I'd get a Brownchurch one if that's the sort of thing you are after...

I got the medium flat Rhino Rack from BOAB just before Xmas and even though its described as flat the Steel tubing creates a lip of around 2 inches all the way round and it fits perfectly across the rear half of the roof. Well happy with mine for that price. Badda bing.......How you doin'?
Java black SE, standard spec. Clean and shiny.

I will be towing a caravan and just want the rack to put a folded up dinghy on and other bulky light stuff.
Call me Mr Picky (in a Blackadder accent), but erm....
....couldn't you just put this stuff in your caravan?
Or is it a case of not having space to store them in the boot when you're not towing the caravan 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

buy some electricians tray/basket and cut it to size you want. Much cheaper than boab suggestion although they are a fine company to deal with.A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

so how does that compare with:

Perfect, that's great, thanks
for the Brownchurch rack...?
Because that is twice the price of the BOAB platform and you need to ditch your roofbars you have just paid out for.
And it is as much a basket as the BOAB Roof Baskets...
Confused...? Me...? Yes... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
