Just spent the afternoon fitting the blanking kit from http://bellautoservices.co.uk/products/lan...nking-kit/
Fantastic, what a difference to my 06 Disco. Response and MPG greatly improved, many thanks to this forum for saving me megabucks and giving me the satisfaction of a Job Well Done.

Fitted my BAS blanking plates last night and there has certainly been an improvement in throttle response. Still early days to see if my MPG improves.
A few tips I learnt from my mate who helped last night (well to be fair... he did most of the work actually):
- When fitting the EGR end blanks, he tied some strong cotton thread through one hole in the blank, put the bolt through the same hole and tied the cotton around the bolt so neither could be lost. He then fitted the blank to the EGR hole with the gasket (which remained on the EGR and was secured with a small screwdriver to stop it getting lost. He then secured the 2nd bolt to a socket wrench with sellotape and fitted the second bolt. Both cotton and tape can be removed easily afterwards. Same procedure with the 2nd EGR blank.
- The butterfly rod was stuck fast. In the end we had to loosen the bracket that held the air box that was removed (removed the top 2 bolts and loosened the bottom enough to move it away). This gave enough room underneath to get a small screwdriver to start the rods movement. Even then it was still too stiff to remove with screwdrivers and too far away from the casing to get a screwdriver underneath again. In the end we used a tent peg puller which had a handle and a v hook and hooked it underneath the rod end enough to move it out far enough to remove by hand. This was actually the most difficult part of the work.
One final thing... BAS included an advertising page which showed the blanking kit with 2 white p-clips - I assume to secure the cabling afterwards. I did not get this with my kit (and nothing was mentioned previously about these so did not know they were missing until I read tthe advertising page) so improvised with 2 sticky pads I use for securing Ethernet cable, which I screwed in using the removed pipe bolts. The pads allow a tie-wrap to be fitted through them to secure the cables. Not a big issue but would have been easier with the p-clips.
So hopefully no more EGR problems.
Thanks to BAS and for the easy to follow fitting instructions on this site.

Hello all, new to the disco scene, just got a disco 3 gs. I brought the car with engine light on the dash and the dealer has said that it's the left hand side egr and is paying for it to go to my local LR garage and have a new one fitted. (@his expense)
Should I let him go ahead or let him blank them off.

If it's going to a LR dealership then they probably won't blank them anyway.
If its being paid for then go for it and then think about blanking in the future!
That's what I would do 2005 D3 Zambezi Silver

Sounds like a good idea, just really scary to think of all that crap that's getting forced back into the engine.
I'm no mechanic but it don't sound good. It's a 2007 v6 2.7 disel discovery 3 are BAS the best place to get the kits from.
Its done 83000 miles. I've never driven a disco before and I'm quite shocked at the lack of proformence from the engine could that be the EGR
I was sold a millioncare life time of ownership warranty with the car do u think that the blanking kit would void warranty.
I'm a total newcomer. Wanted one for years and finally twisted my wife's arm. Love it but do have some concerns and the more I read about the disco 3 they seem to be a labour of love.
Cheers any advice would be greatly appreciated

If you have the warranty, keep the EGR's and If faulty in the future then use the warranty to get them fixed. That's if their covered of course.
As for the performance, it will probably be down to the EGR failure, you should see a big difference once it's fixed.
There's no harm in taking the pipes off and giving it a good clean out, you can clean the MAP sensor as well while your at it.
Just do a search on here, there's plenty of guides on how to do some of these things yourself.

Technically, Post MY06 can't be blanked - i.e MY06 can, MY07 can't Mark.
