Does the D3 have a system of warning when brake pads are wearing down and in need of replacement soon? If this exists does it cover front and rear?
Thanks Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

yes, but only on one side of each. So best to manually check them. 3mm left = replace Bodsys Brake Bible

Once the WARNING light appears on the dash, it means new pads and SENSOR wire too....
Sensor Wires are Front Near side, Rear Off side
