Disco 3 V8 alternator advice

In the thread below I've been asking for advice on a burning smell that emanates from the drivers side (LHD) of the vehicle. There was some discussion about the alternator.

I've got the full LR service history for this vehicle and there's no sign of the alternator having been replaced. I've run the car with every single voltage-drawing option selected (full defrost on the climate, heated seats, all lights, etc etc) and on tickover the voltage drops to around 12.5 but goes up to above 13+ when driving. Without the heavy load it's around 14.3V.

I can't re-create the burning smell I referenced in the link below, but with that load the smell wasn't evident when I tested it earlier today.

From my perspective the alternator seems fine, but I wondered whether it's wise to replace given the age (it's a 2006 car so presumably a 2006 alternator)/mileage (81k) or whether there'll be an indication of it failing before it completely gives up.

Any advice on what brand would also be useful. I assume OEM is Denso? I can get that from LR direct for about $220 odd. Bearmach and Britpart are slightly cheaper.

Thanks.
