Very slight play in steering and vibration whilst braking
Hi guys,
Met up with Bodsy on Monday night to get a second opinion on the vibration through the steering wheel.
When I brake moderately between 70mph and 60mph there is visible judder through the steering wheel. This disappears as soon as you get below 60mph.
I have just replaced the brake pads all round but not the discs.
Also there is very very slight play in the steering. At about 50mph on snaking roads, left to right, right to left etc you can feel a small amount of play in the steering and she does tend to "tramline".
The zeros on the front only have about 3mm left on them so i guess they are contributing the tramline effect.
The problems are very slight at the moment but i just wondered if anyone else had had the same problems and should I be saving all my pennies for another large repair bill!
Thanks guys.

I had the symptons when my 4mm wranglers needed replacing, I got trouble at 25mph 40mph 50mph, thought it was weird but turned out to be solved with new tyres
I am not saying that IS the fix for you of course even though you are on 3mm, expensive undertaking them ther rubber thingsCaptain Nick Medhurst would ask:

I've had the "vibration under braking" issues before, though not on the D3, usually due to worn discs.
As for the "tramlining", tread pattern definitely plays a part in this and the worn tyres could make a difference.Clive

I would also support the Discs, once the thickness gets to a certain point they cannot disipate heat correctly, so tent to warp....
But also you need to look for Tie Bar/rod play, big heavy D3 tends to wear these out, mine are going as TFC advised, so already gearing up for next service...

Well on the strength of the information you guys have given me i think i'll replace the front two tyres and see what happens. They need to be done at some point soon anyway.
