Key Fob Battery Suppliers

I've been reading some of the other posts about the problems with key fobs that stop working as this has recently happened to mine.

It looks like replacing the battery is the first thing I should do however I can't find anywhere to buy one. I checked with http://www.cellpacksolutions.com/Search_Da...L2330-1HFE but the don't have any in stock and also said they are going to remove them from their website as they cant't get hold of them.

Any suggestions on alternative suppliers or if anyone has a spare and would be happy to sell let me know (willing to pay a premium as I'm desperate!)

Disco 3 key fob battery replacement.

Having been told by my local LR franchise that the only way forward was to part with £185 for a new key supplied and programmed as my battery would not hold charge. Once recovered from the shock I got a few tips from this site and others and not being the one to lie down gracefully and hand over my credit card have taken the following action: -

What I have done is ordered a new fob shell off Flea B for £29.99. This is identical to the original and comes in two halves that you can glue together when done. You have to crack open the old case which I managed to do quite cleanly but it could have gone horribly wrong, and re-use the circuit board and key shaft in the new case as this has the programmed bits in it. The battery is soldered to the chip board and is a VL2330 Horizontal Tab battery. I have just ordered one from cellpacksolutions.com for £8.88 delivered.

You can remove the solder from the battery tabs on the board with some solder wick (sucks up the old solder) and put the new battery in applying new solder when it is in place. All put together and will charge it up when I next got for a long run. Fingers crossed. If all goes to plan i have sorted out the problem for £38.87. One in the eye for LR!
Very Happy

I did the same as Marklangdown.
I bought my battery from CPC (Part of the Farnell group) for £2.72 + vat
Carriage is free if you spend over £45.00 + vat
Otherwise, for a small order, carriage is £5.95 + vat

Then a new key fob shell from Flea Bay.

It's a fiddly job, but take your time.

How long did it take for your old batteries to die? In theory (according to LR) the battey lifespan should last approx. 14 years. And the older D3s are 7 and a half years...

My car is a 2005 & the spare key had sat unused in the kitchen drawer for over a year.
I now swap keys occasionally to keep them both charged.

Dont believe the manufacturer!

They tell you that the battery will last 14 years but in truth it does not.

The battery will run down if not used regulary (and therefore not charged) and once it gets to a certain low point it will not come back to life. Nothing wrong with the key or the circuit board - just a kna Censored er battery. They weld the fob together so not easy to get apart but with care can be done. I purchased a new case off flea b and it looks like the new one. just hope it works now! Laughing

My remote was transfered to me from the previous owner not working but the disco is just over 4 years old.

The garage I purchased it from sent me a new fob and I agreed to get it programmed this end. It cost me £30 as fuel to the garage for them to do it foc would have cost more!

Dont let anyone tell you it is a big job to program a key. They simply plug the car into a small portable box, put the working key in the ignition, then the new key, job done - 5 minutes max! They have to program all keys at the same time. Once I repair the old one (I will then have 3 keys) I will have to get all three programmed again. But garage said he will do it for free. Very Happy

Well done on the DIY path; post back if you get all three keys working at once, as I seem to recall that there was a two key limit.

United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Java BlackDiscovery 3

I replaced the battery in my dead key fob last night. Bought the battery from RS as suggested for under £4 and a new case from ebay for £16. You need to buy a new case because you can't open the other without destroying it. I found the best way to open the case was to use a junior hacksaw on the side that doesn't have the key (don't go too deep otherwise you'll hit the electronics, but you can go almost the depth of the blade). The other side is tricky as it is recessed so I used an end mill cutter on my mill machine, but a rotary blade tool would do too. The battery is soldered onto the board with high temperature solder so you need a good soldering iron with a sharp pointed end to remove it properly. Once you've done this, remove the black battery clip from the circuit board, install the new battery in it and then clip it back on the board wit the connections through the old soldering holes. Then you just need to carefully solder the connections again, and put it all in the new case.

You don't need to reprogram the new fob as it has all the electronics from the previous one and it doesn't forget when you remove the battery. I would recommend testing before gluing the new case together. New fob works a treat. Thumbs Up

Number of keys

I have only just been back to the garage and charged up the third key. Works a treat. I now have three working keys.

My garage man when Iasked him how many keys can you have - he said as many as you like! He showed me the screen where you do it on the programming box and it went over 30!

I see a reply here saying 8 - so maybe the landy will limit it to 8 rather than the programmer.

Just nice to get one over on LR Very Happy
