| D4 Rear Brake Pads (Info you should read) |
|
Guys
had a bulletin pop up today which i think the info should be passed on to help later down the line
it has been identified that between chassis numbers
AA513326 - AA547440 Discovery 4
There were 2 different types of brake calipers fitted to the REAR of the D4
either aluminium or cast iron (They were only fitted in pairs so you should not have mixed axles sets)
Now that on it's own is no real issue but the pads are slightly different in design meaning you need to be aware if you buy pads from a dealer as to which calipers you have and which pads to use
Cast Iron caliper uses pads
LR021316 Marked (FER4212FF)
Aluminium uses pads
LR015519 Marked (FER4258FF)
After Chassis number AA547440 they were ALL fitted with cast iron calipers
Now moving forward in vehicle ownership, and if at some point calipers need to be replaced again they recommened that THEY ARE NOT MIXED, so be warned, maybe some dealers may not pick this up so store this info in you noggin for later and question them as to whether they are aware of this.
I'm trying to up a pdf file of pictures of the 2 calipers and pads so i'll edit this post with the link in a while

TLO
Just wanted to say thanks for this info. Mine is just about to go in to have the pads done at a local garage and I was able to let them know the part numbers
Would have been highly irritating to have had them get the wrong pads and have the car in for another day whilst they sourced the correct ones.
Thanks again

Thanks TLO
Mine are the Aliminimum ones..... are you offering extra discount to compensate for the difference
why did LR change to Cast Iron Calipers - Am I to expect caliper problems later on in life if I have the Aliminimum ones ? Duncan
