| Great News! General AT's in 19" and 20" from Sept |
|
Was at the Billing LRO show last week, and chatting with several of the tyre guys there, inc Mfrs, and they all confirmed that there will be a new General Grabber AT launched on or around Sept 9th for the LR 19" and 20" sizes, which made my day, as I had to put my 19" rims into storage in order to use AT2's.
They said due to EU regs they will not be AT2's, as they are not allowed to produce new tyre sizes without meeting new EU 'tyre noise' regs, and the AT2's are aparently too noisy. SO they have come up with a new tread pattern, slightly less aggressive than the AT2, but nevertheless it will still be an All Terrain tyre. (They are still allowed to produce tyres for existing sizes of course, but because they don't already do AT2's for these sizes...)
I'm really pleased, and can't wait to get my 19" rims back on the car! Club 19" Grabber AT's

Thats supposed to be top secret, who let that out of the bag ?
You are correct on all your points, about time too, I knew 6+ months ago it was on the cards.
I am going out to Germany on the 9th September for the launch, am told of some great new sizes as well as the 19" and 20" General AT.

To be honest Andy, everyone I spoke to was blabbing about it. They were even promising me a set at the next LRO show at Peterborough. As soon as you have prices Andy, I'd like a set of 5 pls! I hope someone will leak some pictures soon too. Club 19" Grabber AT's

Think I know who you spoke too, they tell me to keep my mouth shut then they blab it.
Good thing is the launch is at the L/Rover Experience centre in Cologne, so I guess with the AT's fitted on L/Rover vehicles.
As they say sometimes you have to do what you are told, what a bitch.

Andy, before I put 5 shiny new GGAT's on, a word of advice pls. After having had suspension work last year, I had full 4 wheel computer alignment done at a local bodywork specialists. Their system was all singing all dancing, and truly was quite incredible. After further work on the suspension a few months later, I had the 4 wheel alignment done again, so it's been done twice in the last 10 months, but yet my tyres have not worn evenly at all.
Only one tyre on the car (n/s/r) was worn perfectly evenly. All the other 3 are worn particularly badly on the inside edges, and burring slightly on the outside edges, typical of a car toeing out slightly. The thing is, the tracking, castor, camber and all other adjustments were done to within tolerances and I still have the report to prove it, so is this just the sort of thing I should expect on a D3, or is it likely that the computer alignment could have been wrong? I haven't done anything that could have knocked it out of line since then, with only road use, and light farm duties off road, no knocks or bangs.
To be fair, once the inside edge (about an inch or so) had gone smooth, the rest of the tyre was down to the indicators within about a month so not far behind.
Any thoughts? Club 19" Grabber AT's

Was it put into tight tolerance mode before tracking done?? Over last few months had 4 way tracking done by dealer in Elgin and no inner edge wear. Did have inner edge wear after lots of bushes replaced though, bush settle? Can maybe be ar$ed a bit.

Was not in TT mode the first time, but the second time I got my specialist (detailed below) to accompany me with his autologic box, so the more recent one was in TT mode. Personally I thought it was better the first time and I never noticed any burring the first time. I don't wanna waste money getting it checked again, cos it wasn't cheap, but also don't want to wreck new tyres. Club 19" Grabber AT's

What cost more 4 new tires or wheel alignment? General grabbers at2's make it almost not worth to check alignment if the D3 is traveling in straight line, but would want every thing perfect so not sure what to do?

After bush settle (AFAIK) tracking out scrubbed rears to bald on rear inside inside 2500 miles. They were 17" Contis with 4-5mm of tread. That would have done 8-12k miles. On that basis new contis would be binned at 7500 miles, 1/4 of expected life. No brainer really! Can maybe be ar$ed a bit.

Silly question. Have seen a post saying 19" GGs will be AT not AT2.
What's the difference?
Will be looking for replacements for 19" MT/R when the time comes and wondered if AT is more or less aggressive than AT2

Take a look at the other thread on this subject http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic54374-15.html
In it Andy states that the AT will be less 'aggressive' than the AT2. Lloyd "Phat Face"
