We all know the SatNav has some strange ideas but.....

....this takes the biscuit.

Why does it want me to go 3 sides of a square instead of straight ahead? Absolute bonkers. The road shown in brown is a good wide road and has no issues.

I was suing a TomTom Live 550 at the same time (for the Live traffic updates) and it had no issue.

On top of the SatNav insistance that the quickest way from the south coast to the midlands is via the M25 and not the A34 I beginning to wonder if it is worth having at all. Evil or Very Mad

How is your nav set-up ....is it set to 'major roads' ?

Mine takes me down the M5 to the junction past my house, then does a u-turn and brings me back up the motorway to the junction I have driven past.

I am assuming its the bling factor and as the D4 has gone more girly, it seems to think I want to go shopping to Cribbs Causeway Rolling Eyes

When returning from France this year tried entering 2 way pionts 1)Cherbourg Ferry terminal 2)Portsmouth Ferry terminal and then onto home.

Entered that,it then calculated the route, and to my surprise i found that it wanted me to drive to Cherbourg then Drive to Calais,Ferry from Calais to Dover and then drive from Dover to Portsmouth then onto home.

My how we laughed Rolling with laughter

What a technological marvel at times.

Oh and preferences were set to all roads.

With all settings set for major roads for LR and TomTom on a trip down to Southampton last weekend, the LR kit tried to take us somewhere north of the M3 whilst the TomTom sensibly decided motorway was best.

Still using both in tandem, it was mildly amusing watching the LR satnav trying to get us off at every junction.

It eventually gave up and fell in line with the right way there!

Was informed that sometimes the nodes used in the application are not joined together, though it appears they are on screen. This then causes the software not to see the road as being continous when working out a route.

The A34 route is a pain for me too. Was advised that travel along route until it stops telling you to do a u turn and this is where the break in the nodes is. will try next time on A34 and see if can id where the break is.

dont worry guys - LR's sat nav tries to keep you off the A34 from the M40 down to southampton so that the road's free for the LR transporters taking all the LR's down to the docks.

Mine ignores it every time when plotting the route from Brum to Portsmouth, when its the obvious main route.

I'll check at the weekend as the car is at home this week while I'm in Manchester.

The off and on the junction problem is a nonsense in something that costs so much money. At the join of the A31 and M27 the LR SatNav insists I come down the sliproad off the A31 and then head straight back up the opposite sliproad to join the M27. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I get round the "avoid the A34" problem by having a random point on the A34 near East Ilsley stored as a Marked Point and then use that as a waypoint when setting a destination that I know should involve the A34.

Yes, mine did this yesterday where the A46 joins the M1, wanted to go round the roundabout and back on to the M1.
Naturally I dutifully told the nice lady to stop being stupid and go back to painting her nails. Whistle

I think this even surpasses the madenss above.

I am in the Hilton at Leicester near the M1. Going to Manchester Marriott which is on the west side of the city centre. Sat nav gives me a choice of going back to Birmingham and then up the M6 or all the way up to Leeds and back across on the M62! Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

The TomTom of course got it bang on: up M1 to the A50 and the across to meet the M6. I only really planned on using the TT for the traffic info as my sat nav does not have TMC. At this rate it will be getting used as the primary routing source.
