| HF - Birdies when engine actually running ? |
|
Hi Folks,
Recently fitted a Codan 9323 to the D3.
Unfortunately it seems that the vehicle is producing some birdies, but only when the the engine is actually running which to me points to an ECU.
Just wondering if others have experienced this and have found a solution.
One strong one is @ 21.185Mhz which of course is bang on one of my travellers nets..

Bodsy you klutz! Mr. gps-au is obviously a radio enthusiast and is asking if any similar minded folk have experienced HF interference from the ECU on the D3 before!

I've been putting this down to the data bus. Working up at VHF/UHF there is a huge difference between interference on internal and external antennae. Trying to shield bus is impractical, but one could shield ECU.

As the cable harness is not screened, RF is everywhere within the vehicle as none of the wiring is screened but the rear of the vehicle is quieter.
Have you checked to see if the noise is being picked up by the aerial or conduced via the rig power cables? Try powering the rig straight from the battery if you have picked up power from within the cabin.
You could try double screened aerial cable but ......
Good luck,
Ian
