Overspeed alarm issue

I've have had an issue with the overspeed alarm since new - 36K on the clock now. Basically, the alarm is set for 110 km/h, but the first time it sounds is at 117 km/h. All times after that it was sounding at 110 km/h until the next key start. Then same as before, first alarm at 117 km/h, then all subsequent alarms at 110km/h.

Went to the dealer for an update on Thursday to cure a significant turbo lag, which was completely cured. Since then though, setting the overspeed alarm at 110 km/h results in the alrm only sounding at 117 km/h for all occurrences - is this a new 'feature'?
Why have I never felt this way about a 4WD before?

My overspeed alarm (set at 80mph) bongs at 83 - always has. It's not quite the error that yours has but it's not far off. (4% vs 6%)

I just assumed that the speedo had been calibrated to err on the side of caution (as has been the case with every car I've ever owned), and that the overspeed alarm was working off some other input... Not sure what though.

Could it be a speedo calibration issue as speedos always read faster than the actual speed. Just run a check against a GPS type speedo at a constant speed my D3 reads about 74mph when the GPS states 70mph (GPS more accurate at a constant) could it be that the overspeed sensor doesn’t take same allowances into consideration as the speedometer

Did a GPS check on my D3, numbers were bang on! Every other car I've checked has had the speedo over read by typically 10%.

My GPS unit (a Talex) shows that the D3 speedo is about 4-5mph lower at motorway speeds.

I think the speedo is good - I've checked it against two different freeway advisory speed cameras, and both gave me as spot on speed, one at 100 and the other at 110 - I'll try resetting the alarm to 100 on a long run to Strathalbyn tomorrow and see what happens ...

I thought there was a thread on here about this? First time alarm goes off its a fair way above the setting, but then after that its pretty much spot on. Think it was so that it allowed a little bit of lee-way until the limit was 'properly' exceeded, then after that gave you a more accurate reading.

Can't find the thread, though. Rolling Eyes

Reset the speedo alarm to 105, and now the alarm consistently goes off 112, so seems like a 7km/h differential is the only constant. The stealer is looking into it - will post any results.

so set the alarm at just below your set limit... will go off and you slow down. Has always done this.

I bought this up a while ago, LR cust serv answer was that the sensor works in conjunction with ABS and speed of wheels goig round!!!!! but it still did not answer question. if wheel speed is 112 alert is set to 105 and speed zone is 100, you're history, mr policeman won't recognise this.Having said that once you activate it, it goes of at the alloted speed there after.

Out of interest how do you adjust the speed warning. Manual we got in Finland was hopeless and didn't say much (just mentions a light).

early 2006 se model.

Thanks
