Got my wheels back today
Having damaged the 19" alloys whilst driving off road, I bought a spare set of 17's and got the 19's restored and powder coated. Got them back today, and good god they are shiny 8)

Much better than the standard finish, goes all the way to the back of the wheel, not just the face of the wheel as Land Rover do them.
Questions....
Do they do it with the tyres on or do they remove/refit them?
How much did it cost? The End

The tyres are removed, and the wheels blasted and chemically cleaned to remove all old paint and corrosion. Then any surface damage is dressed and filled. The wheel is then inspected for cracks etc. Then the powder is applied and the wheels go into an autoclave to heat them up to fix the powder.
They then inspect, refit the tyres, and balance using internal weights (not like Land Rover who use external knock on weights).
Cost £280 inc vat for 4 wheels. Dropped them off on Friday picked up today. Had them done at Diamond Wheels in Stockport. Great service, friendly advice.
I looked at a few other places, some very well known but was put off by the excessive £20 per wheel just to remove and refit/balance the tyre on top of the cost to powder coat. DW only charged me £20 extra for all four tyres and balance.
Are they the stick on type weights, aka easily knocked off off-road type? The End

They are stick on, but they are behind the wheel face on the inside of the spokes . Can't see how they could get knocked off there? Have you had them and lost them or something?
Surely must be better than the 'nail on' Land Rover weights that chip the paint away.

Excellent value ....they certainly look as good as new.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Stick on ones will get removed from anywhere that mud can get to, which is everywhere! They do look better (coz you can't generally see them) but do get knocked off easily which is I suspect why LR use the bang-on ones
If you only use them on-road I wouldn't worry about it but if you're thinking of using them off-road (probably not yet seeing as you've just had them repaired) I'd make a note of where the weights are on each wheel so you know where to look to see if they're missing. It only takes a spinning wheel in a nice bit of boggy mud for them to become 'weightless' The End

For off roading I'd imagine a bit of aluminium tape stuck over them will stop them getting pinged off.
Better than new. I'd love to get mine done but know within a couple of weeks they'd be back to the 'rough' look! The End

Ah, thats why I have the 17's for playing in. These 19's will be used for best only. Now I have bought a decent bottle jack from Billing, I can change them very quickly.
Working on a retaining system to put the bottle jack in the spare battery box under the bonnet.

I noticed after my 'puncture' incident at Shere Si that both main weights of the affected wheels had moved about 8 inches around the rim...lucky not to lose them eh!21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
