| Thule roofbars to Discovery 3 |
|
As discussed previous Thule is not marketing Thule original roofrack (footpack) that fit Disco3 (in Europe). The ones they have on their european site is not compatible with Disco3. I phoned up the engeneers at Thule in Sweden and asked them why they only marketed Footpacks for the US market and not in Europe
He got a bit confused and couldnt give me another answer than this must be due to a deal with LR so LR can sell their LR branded kit(made by Thule).
However, he told me that Thule 4700 footpack + Thule 4710 adaptor kit would solve my problem, so I went to the Thule dealer and got the parts, problem solved.
If you want a Thule system order the following parts:
-Thule 4700 Footpack
-Thule 4710 Adaptor kit
-Thule 769 (square profile bars) or 869 (aero profile) 135 cm bars

DSL, sorry about that, and yes I finally got a set of 18" RRS wheels. I picked them up outside London in July. A bargain when a set like tha would cost me almost £2500,- in Norway.
Hope you finally got a set yourself.
Cheers Simon

Good job on the wheels. No problem re my search, I saw U were keen so backed off price wise. Got a set of 18s for £200 with a few mm of tread left, also got a set of 17s with full tread for £300. My need for wheels if now satisfied!

| Thule Bars and feet (Recall ????) |
|
Ive just spoken to a guy at autoracks in the UK, 01296 658607, he stated that THULE have recalled the 4700 and 4710 foot kits for use on and only on disco 3's.
Apparently there have been a couple of occasions where the feet have pulled out of the rails.
Dont know if this is just scare mongering in relation to the landrover/Thule deal, but does seem fairly coincidental ????
sorry to be bearer of bad news, would love to hear this is a load of rubbish.

Dinger, thank you for the info. The Guy at autoracks do probably not make this up by him self. However I find it strange that this has only been done in the UK, the Norwegian importer did not mention this when i contacted them. Neither did the Thule kit engeneer at the Thule factory know about this
But then again the explanation to this could be that they simply not have been told yet.

I got mine from a place in scotland, they to didnt want to sell the parts for use on a disco 3, I told them about the possibility that its a landrover/thule deal, and they were then happy to sell the footpacks.
very strange goings on, not sure what its all about, but essentially,UK dealers(Thule) have been advised not to sell their footpacks to disco 3 owners.......
But ive got mine now with siler aero bars, very swish !!! Specialist Medical & Rescue Services

I have just done 2660 miles with 3 kayaks on top of my Discovery using Atera roof bars and foot kit. They have never budged. I bought Atera because i was told that Thule had withdrawn the foot pack for the Disco 3 from the uk market due to safety issues. If you would like to have a look at my gallery for my 127cm width Atera roof bar system. I am very impressed with Atera. Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. Tasmod Stainless Sill plates. Grabber AT's. Home made mud flaps. Side Steps back on until the next time.

Should I remove all the "soft" plastic cover on the roof?

As long as you have the original roofrails you do not need to remove any plastic cover

Coz you pay a fortune extra just to have a little oval with Land Rover stamped in it,on a set of what are just a set Thule bars that you could otherwise buy from Halfords! Got to keep the dealer network in business! RR Evoque Coupe Dynamic Plus Lux auto in Fuji White with every extra - just brilliant
Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300 County Hard Top that has had the snip and become a Station Wagon - STILL RUNNING
