Low Fuel Warning and MP3 intermittent cut-out

Hi All,

Land-rover D4 in with the dealers, my low level warning light/message does not appear at the appropriate fuel level (manual says you should be warned at 50 miles remaining), Got as far down as a few miles remaining. The fuel bar appears to be OK - was bang on empty. Anyone else had this??

At the same time my dealer is looking at the MP3 I-pod cutting out problem, last time they fobbed me off suggesting it was a dodgy ipod connection cable which they replaced, but I note on here the problem is with other parts of the wiring.

For those who have had this fixed, could you post up which dealer fixed it, and if you can remember, exactly what they said the problem was?

Many thanks.

Hi!

I am also having an intermittent problem with my audio system.. I have noticed that it only happens when I have a USB drive and the iPod plugged in at the same time.. One remedy I have found by trial n error is to turn off the Audio System before turning off the engine. I have not sent the vehicle to the dealers with this problem as I have been able to fix itself with something or the other... hope your issue gets sorted out soon!

Plus, if you are plugging in a USB device as well, make sure its formatted in FAT system. the NTFS ones have given me problems..

regards,
T

My light comes on when the gauge looks bang on empty, but the miles stated are left seems correct within a couple as I've tested it and kept driving until it was spluttering.

When this happend I had traveled about 2 miles on 0 so from what I see the tank calculation is about bang on.

I think it came on at 31 miles left.

Drove mine down to zero last week and was about a mile away from the filling station.

Still only took 75 litres to fill it up though! Rolling Eyes

I went a further 85km after mine read "0" range left (Note: had 40 litres in Jerry cans in the back for insurance Thumbs Up . Note: next time bring along filling spout Embarassed ). At that point I chickened out and filled it up (76 litres).

Mine's having the fuel gauge looked at when it's serviced next month. The low fuel warning comes on at around 25 miles (sometimes less - once 12 miles!!) but if I let it run to 0 miles, I can still only get about 73-74 litres in. I once ran it to about 20 miles over, and still only managed 78 litres.

I haven't checked where the bar is when it says zero, but I think it ties in with the miles to go.

The manual is being updated to change the language on the 50 miles/12 litres, which appears to be a D3 throwback. It will, in future, say fill up ASAP and that the remaining mileage is (approximately) shown by the computer.

Not very helpful............

I have only recently (last 6 months) experience the fuel light coming on near empty (20kms left)

Took it into the dealer, and its related to the last software upgrade. Also now LR has updated the manual to say it wont come on at 80kms it will come on when required!

Seriously why would LR change this??? Stupid people!

I drove to Heathrow the other day - approx 75 miles - knowing I'd need to fill up on the way back after a night stop in Munich

Got back in the car the next day and started driving.

Just before junction 13 of the M4 I remembered that I should have filled up. Checked the distance to empty - 14 miles!!!

No low fuel warning on the screen - bongs or lights. Very worrying.

Pulled in to the servcies to find price was 139.9p per litre. So put a tenner in only with a view to filling up nearer home, off the motorway where it's 10p per litre cheaper

Got back in the car to find it still reading 14 miles! Perhaps not enough fuel going in to register a change..........?

So two things:

1/ Why no low fuel warning?

2/ If it didn't register the £10 I put in, does the computer now think that there's £10 less of fuel in the car than there actually is (ie does it register incrementally) or does it completely reset itself on the next fill up to give the actual fuel level?

I've noticed it takes quite some time to register added fuel when you only add a small amount to a nearly empty tank - but it was the same on the D3 we had.

Guys

My fuel warning light is still not coming on - is there any way to reset it or is it a dealer job?

Thanks

OK - thanks very much!

Will have it looked at when I have the FBH replaced............

I did wonder if, as the FBH is linked to fuel level, whether the two may be linked.

when I was on the M74 the other week I'm sure the fuel light came on about 30 something miles, then the other day I'm sure it came on about 40 maybe 50 while driving round the doors. Would this perchance be a computer thing when the car will calculate according to driving conditions?

Yes I've notice this too - it appears to be dependant on the quanitity of fuel left which dependaent on what the average fuel consumption is at the time means the distance to empty can vary significantly.
