So there I was - listening to my old man hypothesising on whether he'd buy an Audi A6 Avant or a BMW 520d Touring.......thinking he was mad to spend so much on a new car. He called me from the BMW dealership the next day to tell me he'd been offered an X3 and was contemplating it..... I colourfully suggested that at 67 years old he'd prematurely lost it and that he could buy a Disco 3 for the same price and have more room etc..The girlfried said I was a bit tough on him.
So I called my mate who works for a LR/Jag/Volvo franchise and borrowed one overnight as my old man would be too stubborn to do it. He was impressed as was I.........and the girlfriend
Long story shot - three weeks later (last friday) he's driving a 2006 demo BMW 520d Touring and I signed the dotted line for a brand new Disco 3 delivering in October - EEK! I must be mad! They're nearly twice the price in Ireland as they are in the UK because of the extra tax. Bastard tax men.
And I swore I'd never buy a new car. I was perfectly happy with the defender as my only transport................Should never have borrowed the Disco. I'm sure there's a morale to this story but can't come up with it. Any suggestions? Def 110 200 tdi CSW - been to Cape Town & back

Smile in the sure and certain knowledge that you have already learned from your fathers mistake. You won't be 68 and wishing you had a D3...... He probably will

You can say that again. I had always admired the D3, but then one day on my way to the Audi dealers (I have had three audis on the trot over the last eight years) and I wandered into the LR dealer just round the corner. Took one for a test drive, then borrowed it for a weekend and then signed up all in the space of days.......
Now I couldn't be parted even though my last audi did 45mpg.........
