Yet another article about 4x4's
Normal stuff but focusing on the falling sales of 4x4's and how this could be the beginning of the end for the 4x4 in London due to Purple Ken and other anti 4x4 measures that might be introduced. The last paragraph was nice though ' While this is bad nes for the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg, it may not be the end for vehicles that are genuinely employed in off-road rural pursuits such as the British-built Land Rover' Loving the power of the TDV8!

even if ford dump them, i cant imagine that any company that buys land rover would change anything much... land rover is a profitable company at the moment so you would have to be stupid to change anything D3 TDV8 HSE on order, Should Arrive 2017. If i'm lucky.

All of this current anti-4x4 nonsense can be mostly attributed to Audi (Q7), BMX (X5), Porsche (Cayenne), Mercedes (ML) and VW (Touareg), amongst others, for muscling into a niche that was previously the domain of a very limited number of manufacturers (LR, Daihatsu, Toyota, Suzuki, Mitsubishi etc).
It's the sight of gaudy, blinged-up, chromed soft-roaders that has got us to where we are. It won't be until they give up and go back to making their core products that this will die down. However, this is unlikely, given that most manufacturers these days want to offer a broad spread of products, such that people buy a brand and choose a particular model according to their circumstances/age/wallet etc. It's also interesting that you rarely, if ever, see an article berating the eco-unfriendliness of a 911, M5, A8 or Phaeton (whatever that was). Good smokescreen they've put up with their ridiculous excuses for 4x4s.
The sad thing is, Audi et al could stop making 'off-roaders' any time they wish and still have a set of products to fall back on - LR can't.
Won't stop me enjoying my D3 though. Keep smiling, Mona Lisa does. TDV6 S Auto, Cairns Blue, Very Happy Indie who keeps it running
...oh, and a Mini Cooper S for the mid-life crisis
