this anti 4x4 campaign is panning out just as it should IMHO. Having recently been associated by default with war & the usual murderings etc by just being constantly in the headlines 4x4 drivers have been elievated to 'folk devil' status & are now solidly part of a 'moral panic' on the green issue. Then we got the rub, this latest effort to get the medias pants down was a smoke screen to allow the government to put out the extreme 'envirionmental' car tax rise proposals - of course they were extreme, it's the old reverse bait & switch routine. As people have pointed out here when the new high emissions tax does come in at less than £1800 everybody who has a big car will breathe a sigh of relief.
As this theory works, we should now get some 'positive' publicity on 4x4's, to try and redress the balance a little, now the dirty work is done & the public are softened up for car tax rises.
And anyone who thinks Labour is the arch enemy- have a look at what the Tories are proposing instead
Love the story here about the Archers being used by the governement for the anti- 4x4 storyline, and the Archers association with government propoganda since the 50's a real eye opener. 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.

As well as the Archers - previous broadcasters of scripts mentioning RRs and LRs with no hint of malice - BBC News on Saturday morning did a piece on the decline in sales of off-roaders in London, seemingly attributing this to the negative press and likening of owning such a vehicle to wearing fur. BBC charges a mandatory fee, which is a tax. Tax is charged by the government. Ergo, the BBC and the government are one and the same.
I love a good conspiracy. TDV6 S Auto, Cairns Blue, Very Happy Indie who keeps it running

My latest conspiracy is that greenp*ss are helping the govt collect more tax with their anti 4x4 campaign.
The more mundane theory is that Greenp*ss are a completely mis-managed bunch of idiots, who have been spending time & resources scandalising 3% of the UK's car drivers, whilst vehicle ownership in asia & south east asia is exploding at an exponential rate, which will make pollution from UK 4x4's look like a grain of sand on Blackpool beach. Because a lot of those vehicles will be 2 strokes, and irregularly serviced & largely unchecked for emissions. Plonkers. 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.

So let me get this right... the smoggy busses, taxis, vans, lorries, bimmers, porkers mercs etc etc contribute nothing to the problem then ??
I assume ALL the polluting particles have a little tag on them saying "hello monitoring system, I am from a 4x4 you know. Count me in"

just proves how un-questioning journos are of the pig swill they are fed from the 'environmentalists' & the Govt, to get a cheap & easy story. It also devalues the whole world of journalism as now we know the methods by which we get fed the swill about major stories in the media. 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.

The Guardian article stated "so-called PM-10, 'particulate matter' measuring less than 10 millimetres which can penetrate deep into the lungs....."
10mm !!!
If they were that big you could grit your teeth and filter the particles out
Just shows that the article, which comments on matters of science, was written by a drippy-ink journo who has never been anywhere near a science or maths lesson. Try lookng up the difference between millimetres and micrometres !
