| Dented one of my 22" rims... |
|
I think it was a piece of wood I tried to avoid on the motorway the other day.
Went out to find n/s rear tyre was flat on Saturday. Got out the compressor, but after 5 mins it was still showing 0 psi. Got out the trolley jack, and changed it for the spare (which is a standard 17" alloy). No sign of a puncture or anything, so I put the wheel in the boot and headed for the garage airline. Once I started to try and put some air in I could hear it escaping from somewhere at the back - sure enough there was a dent on the inside rim. The ultra-low profile of these tyres means that the sidewalls are very sensitive to this type of thing, as there's not enough flexibility to keep a decent seal when the rim is dented.
Land Rover insurance have been excellent, as has my local dealer (Hillendale). The car was due to go in for a software upgrade on Wednesday anyway, so they're going to get the new wheel and tyre in from Kahn for then. £300 excess, but the wheel and tyre is £1000, so I guess I just have to bite the bullet. At least my NCB is protected! 2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

Why do you need a new tyre as well if it's only the rim that's damaged? TorqTune

For the price of that one wheel & tyre I bought 5 x RR 19" new rims with new MTRs. A much more worthwhile investment! Now got to get the dents out of my side tubes (or at least paint them so that the rust does not set in!!)

I have to say the ride is not harsh at all. The tyre is not damaged particularly, but I figure a) If the impact was hard enough to dent the rim, there could be some unseen damage inside the sidewall, and b) If I'm going to have to make a claim anyway, then I want to make sure it's all fixed at once (rather than replace the wheel and THEN find that the tyre is also damaged)
I do get some strange looks, mainly from other 4x4 drivers who shake their heads in disgust at my obviously-not-used-offroad Disco3 2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

actually, I just checked-out your gallery and it's not as bad as I feared.
How's the wear on the painted plastic? My missus wanted the plastic colour-coding but the dealer was very much "it won't last well" WRT paint on the plastic. D3/TDV6/HSE Auto/Tonga Green/Alpaca - stolen by my wife now (and she's dinked it! )

A few stone chips on the colour-coded parts (the rub strips and the wheel arches in particular). I'll get some touch up, and mayube have them repainted in a couple of years... 2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.
