My dealer is claiming late December early January delivery for new D4 but seems unable to give a build/delivery date, should I be suspicious?
Car was ordered first week in October with an initial delivery of late November, I never really thought that was likely, now im starting to think early Jan is just as unlikely!

If you ordered it from Hartwells and the salesman's name is Dave..... I'm convinced he makes up his own delivery dates On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

I don't think it's too far out ...even the site sponsors are indicating a February delivery ISTR Existential Phenomenologist.

I am trading in 2 cars, are they likely to honour the value they quoted me in October?

Depends upon what you agreed ....did they give you a trade value guarantee or did they say they would revalue? Existential Phenomenologist.

No mention of a future revalue, so fingers crossed it should be ok . First time I have bought new so perhaps rather naively I thought when the dealer said he had a November slot he really meant it.

Order in October and delivery in November would have been a spec-change vehicle in all probability... they take your order and then find that someone else has nabbed the vehicle and you are put back into the factory system!
As has been said (assuming that you are after a standard 'car') a Jan delivery sounds plausible...
My D4 Commercial was ordered in August, supposedly for a November delivery but we then found that Special Vehicles would be into January... which is now in danger of turning into February...
However, I have battered a few heads and am not as dis-chuffed as I once was...
Whilst it's a different factory, the Fun Prevention Officer's F2 turned up yesteday... a month ahead of scheduled factory build!
Fingers crossed for you! D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue

Sorry... didn't make myself clear - the standard Discovery should be pootling their way out of the factory in perfect order... it's the 'specials' that hand around! D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue

Ordered an HSE on 30th October and specced how I wanted it, so it was a factory build. Arrived at the dealer on 6th December. I assume it was a pipeline order that the dealer was able to spec amend. Well pleased anyway. Disco 4 HSE SD V6

I have been told a build date of 23rd Feb although I am agitating to get this brought forward if possible!
I have cited the example of someone else on here who got the wrong vehicle in Sept and they managed to turn out a replacement Commercial in 8 weeks!
Would be interested if you hear any different news over time though... D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue
