PDI My Ar*e
Picked up my D3 SE ten days ago, still trying to get to the bottom of excessive engine clatter. However, until yesterday I was very disappointed with the vehicles ride, every lump and hole in the road was apparent, like driving my outgoing Mercedes ML. Not being technical I decided to check the tyre pressures.
As all our door stickers tell us 33psi in the front, 36-42 psi in the rear, I was surprised to find no two tyres the same but an average of 54psi in the front and 62psi in the rear.
Concerned as I've driven 1000 miles some at motorway speeds I spoke with the dealer who laughed and said "that they often do this in the factory", just the response you want after handing over a bucket load of cash...........Caveat Emptor

Hoops - you are right about the low speed ride. I did notice it was firmer after the enhancement (your may have already had it applied) but the cornering at higher speeds is better.
My service guy told me to run the tyres on 48 psi and although I have had to have the obligatory warranty wheel alignment (due to uneven tyre wear).
I originally had them at 38 psi by trial and error but bowed to service centre's suggestion.
PDI should include checking all things like fluid levels and tyre pressures. It might be prudent to check some of the other things in case your dealer is not as efficient (checking wise) as others appear to be.
Excessive noise has been mentioned on the forum before but at least get the service manager to listen to it in comparison to a new car from the showroom floor.

That's a big departure from recommended levels. What do you other guys run your pressures at?

Come on then name and shame they deserve it. Why the feck do LR allow dealers to behave in this manner. Clearly the dealer does not give a sh*t about the product or the reputation of LR. And he is there to carry out the PDI so he should have checked the pressures one of the easiest things to check. Hoops walk into your dealer and ask for the PDI check sheet for your car, insist on seeing there and then. You can then see what has been done. Alas it may give you no more info than you already know but at least they will know not to mess with you if you have other issues.

Take a breath phew had 2 tins of red bull today In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
1-4 psi above placarded pressures can assist with better braking performance and stability, but I would question running the tyres as high as 48psi without significant weight load in the vehicle. IMHO that's too high, particularly with the higher road level temps experienced in Australia.
I think that here in WA pressures that far off the placard are illegal.
(As for 54 and 62psi; that's just nuts! )Have a nice day!

If it's the same dealer I will quite happily (and have done in the past on here), they may have improved (doubtful) in the 16 months since I got my D3 from them though and Hoops could have a completely different useless dealer The End

Wow AndrewS remind me to take you to meet my boss the next time I'm up for a salary review.
I have to say my dealer expectations are low, having an ML for five years I'm use to sitting in service receptions whilst bits are glued back on, electrical systems are re-set etc. Merecedes coffee is much better though.
The sales guy has so far been great and honest, maybe to honest, as far as their service centre is concerned they will be last on my list.
They used to masquerade under a differrent name but sounds like the same place, find yourself another dealer mate or you will end up parking your D3 across the car park (having talked yourself out of parking it in the show room via the window), storming in and ripping the lying little git behind the service desk to shreadsThe End

I think we have a good idea of the place Hoops is mentioning, I'm in the same vicinity, so any recommendations as to a good and honest dealership within reasonable reach of Middx, Berks, Surrey, would be appreciated,as i'm not bl**dy well taking it there for servicing. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
I use Lancaster in Reading nowadays, no complaints
