L319

I new L322 was the code for the FF Range Rover but I've just realised that L319 is the code for the Discovery 3 and L320 is the RRS

Am I alone in not spotting this until nearly 7 months of ownership? Confused

The numbering sequence sort of suggests the D3/RRS were on the cards before the FFRR too?

Anyone care to comment?

Er,

Not sure what you mean but the internal names are sequential, so technically you could argue that DIII is in fact a BMW take on a Disco.

However, a project will be progressed according to corporate requirements, and as such the requirement was for an all new Range Rover, hence the launch.

Incidentally, BMW use an internal numbering system for all there models and this is denoted by the 'E' numbers.

And, consider this - Range Rover is now due for re-design.

As I understood it BMW started on D3 but Ford junked the designs as they were too soft roader. Press comment from Gerry whathisface says the new FFRR is under way.

Thats my point L319 and L320 come before L322 and yet the FFRR was launched 2 years before the D3 - suggests that the D3 was a long long time in design...

Any idea what the L321 was or could have been?

Might be the new Defender. LR have been struggling with how to replace the Defender as they want to retain the heritage / effectiveness / adaptability etc etc, whilst meeting US safety and emission standards. That seems like it may well be a mission impossible ......... Shocked

You sad, sad people.........

However, I guess what is even sadder is that in some cases TV shows haven't really improved that much.....

I would assume that RRS was one number and possibly Freelander might be the other......

I don't know what the desginates are, but I sure that someone will post up.

There were pictures of 'mule' D3s on the internet at least 4 years ago, so it is possible that the initial D3 project started before the current Range Rover i.e. under BMW ownership.

Yes BMW did start the D3, but Ford scrapped it. BMW wanted to hang on to FFRR as X6 but that didn't happen either.
