| 400amp Fuse & Cable to Starter Motor |
|
Not been on here for a little while mainly due to me being away so much. Anyway we were in Cardiff over Christmas and I had just pulled into the hotel carpark, about to reverse into a space when the car died. Put it in park and then pushed the start button, nothing, after a couple more goes I locked the car and gave it time to go into sleep mode hoping it would reset and all would be good, again nothing, this was the moment when SWMBO decided to tell me this happened about a month ago when I was away, "The guy came out and changed a fuse." She says. So I call LR and they confirm that this is likely to be the problem again. Car was recovered to Stratstones Cardiff and a D4 from Enterprise was delivered to the hotel. Stratstones called me later that day to confirm the fuse had blown and the reason for this was the rubbing and eventualy cutting through the cable to the starter thus tripping the fuse and leaving me with a dead car. The cable is situated too close to the engine mount and this is causing the fault, apparently well known to LR. Must say I received great service from Stratstone Cardiff, car was repaired that day and cleaned before I collected it, trust me it was bogging too. What did concern me the most was that this happened during parking, glad it wasn't on the motorway!!!
On a seperate note I was impressed with the "competition board" in Stratstones, They have a list of tyre companies and other LR dealers listing the best prices qouted and then Statstone's better price next to it. Sonny the Service manger was excellent and offered me the first service for under £350.
It's always a pain when a car lets you down, but I'm glad to say I recieved promt (35 mins) attention from LR, then a quick repair and top service from the dealer.
Has anyone else experienced or heard of this problem before?
Cheers,
Steve.

Noty had the problem myself, but seem to remember reading something similar on here before - any pictures of the cable in situ? Just so that other D4 owners can check our vehicles haven't started doing the same

I don't have any pics but it's pretty easy to follow, remove the battery cover, on the front of the battery directly as you look at it is a small black box, this is the 400 amp fuse, the cable coming off it goes to the starter. Hope this helps.
