Detachable towbar for ring hitch trailers ...?

I think this is a no, no, but has anyone managed to adapt or bought a converter to allow the detachable towbar to be used with ring-hitch trailers? Confused

I have a detachable towbar but a ring hitch trailer. I think I'm going to have to buy a multi-height, but thought I would check.

Cheers, Peter

Can't imagine an adapter for that that would be stable/strong enoiugh. Think the multi-height is the way to go... with an adapter plate. Thumbs Up

Thanks Bodsy - illegal but tempting to butcher the detachable hitch and weld a detachable plate onto it .. it's only a 3T trailer! Evil or Very Mad

I like XTC's one on the link - did you ever get yours made up?

Yes, I was thinking of maybe selling what I have. I do like the idea of detachable type, personally I don't like the look of the multi-height.

Just awaiting the back bit to join the recovery point to make it a little more robust (not that it needs it!). I think Stu has done his one, but mine is a different height/hole measurement.

I've used it as it is in the pic without the stabilisher bars and it's been fine, but i did end up putting the bars on when I last took it to France, just to be as secure as possible.

Thanks wiggs - I thought the mult-height was independent of the detachable fixing? Or are there different types about?

Is this what you want?

It still slots in to the same mount as the detachable one, but has side arms bolted to it. These can be removed and the tow bar made detachable again though. I use mine like this for towing my little camping trailer, but if towing anything like a plant trailer or car trailer then I put the arms on just for peace of mind!

If its a proper LR one then it has the same detachable fitting as the swan neck one .

Yes Navigator, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of ..! Smile

I think I must have seen after-market ones that just bolt underneath rather than into the removable slot. Is yours home-made Navigator or can you buy it?

All commercially sold bits. A standard Land Rover North America hitch receiver (from TLO) that plugs in same place as the removable towball, and then a hitch plate that goes in the receiver - I chose a three position one so it could carry a Dixon-Bate adjustable height coupling. This shows how it fits together:-

Looks good, but how high is it? Also what sort of price are we talking about for these?

Thanks, P
