Newbie!

Hi all,

just found this site whilst i was searching for Disco 4 forums on the web.
Have just bought a used (59 reg) Disco 4 TDV3.0 XS for Guy Salmon in Maidstone.
Pick it up on Friday and cant wait!!

Wife has a freelander 2, and think its an awesome machine, so wanted to upgrade to and Land Rover myself.
Am part ex'ing my Sprint Blue Audi S4 4.2 V8, which am a bit sad about as have had it for over three years and it is a fantastic machine.
Only problem with it is the unstoppable thirst and it drains my wallet a fair bit, so hoping that the Disco 4 will improve it (at least a little bit!)

If you are making this stuff up to persuade your wife as to why you need a D4 than I completely understand. Good tactics Thumbs Up .......... Rolling with laughter
But you won't fool us Cool

I have a 4.2 V8 as well and the consumption of my D3 and A6 are similar. In Holland the difference between Super and Diesel is €0.40 so I am still cheaper of with the D3. In the UK at only 2p difference you won't save much.

Unnecessary quote removed

Looking around the forum and web it seems that I will be getting at least 7-8 mpg better with the Disco, so in my book it's a great excuse!
Also the luxurious nature of the Disco puts it above the S4.
I might miss the acceleration but I think at 32 with a young child the Disco is a more sensible car!
At least I cansay I have done the fast car!

I know how you feel. I had an S5 4.2 V8 previously and its quite a change. Any car that followed that was going to have a tough job. However, the D4 hasnt let me down. I don't miss the S5. And yes, fuel is better. Its nice when you can go to a 4x4 and get a fuel improvement Very Happy

I too know the pain (joy) of changing from an Audi S4 V8 to a Disco. The fuel consumption was a massive change for me as i averaged 18mpg in my ownership mainly due to the fact I had it remapped and had a milltek exhaust on it so was never off the throttle Twisted Evil

I have found the Disco's significantly quieter than the Audi and the comfort level in the Audi was good but the Disco is like a moving sofa. I love it. I will always have a Disco in the fleet.

Enjoy!

I had a non res milltek on my S5 and had it remapped (by APS). I do miss the rumble and yes, it did encourage you to drive in a way that you heard that. I got just over 20mpg so not as bad (although i guess the S5 is lighter - slightly).

The S5 was quite a harsh ride and I guess the S4 was as well. It wasnt a problem when I first got it but over the last few years the roads have become less smooth. I didnt feel it as being a problem as a driver but my wife felt it on the passenger seat and the children started whinging. Plus, my eldest has never been a good passenger in that she was prone to travel sickness (not just the S5 but a couple of others as well). Since the D4 she has not had any travel sickness.

I've got a D3 AND an S4. The D3 does about 28mpg and the S4 rather less ... Whistle

Shes arrived!!!

and it brilliant.
Can already see the difference in mpg compared to the S4 so well happy with that!
also agree with the moving sofa part as well, I've never been one to, how shall i say it... adhere to national speed limits, but now, i find myself floating down the road enjoying life at a slower speed!

Exactly how I feel driving mine - I had a BMW Z4 M before and raced about at unmentionable speeds getting 16-22mpg. In the Disco 4 I have never felt the need or desire to floor it, my driving style has changed to nice and sedate, listening to music and enjoying the scenery. I used to hate parts of my commute to work, now I don't mind. i feel apart from the rush, just observing everyone else and cruising / floating from A to B. Mr. Green

But as others have pointed out, buying accessories can be a new addiction...I have spent a small fortune already... Shocked
