| DSC Light - what does it mean? |
|
If you're belting round a corner waaaaay too fast, and the tyres are squealing, what does it mean when the yellow DSC light comes on? Is it "you're going to die very soon" or "if I wasn't here you'd be dead already"?
This, obviously, is purely hypothetical.
[It is a most unpleasant experience hearing your "driver overspeed" warning bong about 50 yards from a 90 degree bend that you'd thought was much further away]

You're about right with the second option
some of the LR instructors call it 'talent control' i.e. when you run out of talent, it takes control
It does a lot of things, including stiffening up the suspension as roll mitigation, backing off the throttle response curve, 'pre-arming' the ABS - including temporarily boosting the brake pressure, and monitors things like yaw rate, angle, lateral G force, steering angle, throttle position and will detect 'fast off' (when you quickly switch from throttle to brake), it also sends information to the SRS and airbag control units and the CJB (which is responsible for opening the door locks, switching on the interior lights & hazards and stopping the electric fuel pumps if a collision is detected) TorqTune

Just in the interests of research ....
Just been driving on a fast road with a mundane-o repmobeel up me tailpipe (75-ish on CC), indicated to leave at a slip road with a very tight left hand bend at the end of it... (repmobeel also indicated to leave at the same junction) the warning signs suggest a speed of 40mph for the bend - I can confirm that a Disco3 can take it at 75-ish on CC, or at least until DSC kicks in and knocks the CC off
The same can't be said for the mundane-o, unless they're meant to corner at 35 degees with a cloud of smoke....
He did manage to get past me at the lights about a mile further on - once he'd caught up

One of the things that impressed me the most during th RRS supercharged day was the DSC system .....almost foolproof ...the guy tried everything to make it lose it ...to the point that my passenger was ready to vomit . I mentioned that I had a D3 and he said that it 'will handle pretty much in the same way' Existential Phenomenologist.

TFC, you're making me feel a lot better about my infraction this morning!

But I am going to have to calm it down a bit. Since my JE upgrade I've managed to keep my fuel consumption in the 27-28 range that I had pre-upgrade, but the last tankful only managed 22mpg 
It's those Derbyshire/Cheshire roads, they're just too bendy and fun.
