Are those cables entering at the top of the tailgate? If so, it will be prone to leaking.

Yes they are cable and no there is no leaking. I have tested it in huge downpours and with hosepipes and in three months since fitting not the tiniest drop of water leaked.
Rood Rack wires have to enter the car somewhere and this solution works however unlikely it may seem.
