| Help please: "LAND ROVER" Bonnet Badge |
|
Is anyone with a recent D4 able to do a quick favour of either/both:
1) Measuring the distance from the leading/bottom edge of the bonnet to the bottom of the (first) R in ROVER
2) Post a reasonably close up picture of the LAND ROVER badge with the top edge of grill showing.
Just had the badge replaced and it looks like it's been stuck on too close to the bottom edge of the bonnet now
Ta very much.

Richard - there's a picture in your gallery of your own D4 with the original badge back in October last year...
Couldn't you just open the original high-resolution image and compare the gap to the size of the letters - the letter size will be constant in both the old photo and the ones that are actually on the car?
I might be quicker than waiting for someone to take a photo for you??

Doh - Completely forgotton about that one - I'd looked at others and none were front on but more artistically from the front quarter. And it's a 12Mb+ Nikon Raw image too...
A direct measurement to the R would be really welcomed though.

Check out jjvd1's gallery.
He's done a lot of measurments in that area.
It's ref the D3, but reckon it's same as D4

OK...I've just been out to the car park with my trusty leatherman to do some measurements.
Note that I've got a D3, but I see no reason why the distances would have been changed for the D4 - they certainly look the same in all the photos/cars I've seen.
I took the measurements flat against the bonnet/letters (probably an angle of around 60° to the horizontal).
Using my finger as a stop on the bottom edge of the bonnet, the distance to the bottom of the middle "R" is approx 20mm.
Measuring from the top of the radius on the leading edge of the bonnet gives approx 17mm.
I hope this helps 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Thanks - that's really helpful.
(Spent a while wandering suspiciously round the car park at work and not a single Disco in there today 3 or 4. There are usually a couple at least. Was wondering how I'd explain taking pics of their bonnets to the security guys though.)
I'll be out first thing in the morning to check it out.

Hmm. So just measured using a dial gauge. Centre R is actually 18mm from bottom edge which is not much out. But the L and R at either end are 13mm so its not actually properly set along the line of the bonnet and does look wrong.
Back it goes...

So a 5mm 'curve' to the lettering there then.
No wonder it looks odd.
When something is that close to an edge most people would notice a difference of only 1 or 2 millimeters.
