Discocruise - I've had my D4 2009 since new (November 2009) and have had no problems with it at all. Any known issues on the D4 generally have been dealt with by Land Rover at this stage, and so long as you look after it and service it properly, you should have a very good experience with your D4.
Go for it! 59 D4 XS (2.7 TDV6 6 speed Manual) Commercial (UK spec) with extras such as Premium Navigation.

The site's fab, but does 2 things 1) increase paranoia and 2) heighten your sense of hearing The result is sleepless nights worrying about all the threads you read on the forum and driving for miles with the fans and radio turned off TRYING to find a worrying noise!
In truth, sure, any car model in the world will have the occasional horror story, but I think in 98% of cases, the only common problems with a well maintained D3 are niggly little problems, mainly electrical, but nothing serious. I think of mine as a tractor that's had an Arnie Terminator upgrade of over-complex technology. Bash it about over terrain and the tractor part stays good, but the electronics struggle to stay A1!
As the others say. you'll be fine. Nov 04 D3 TDV6 HSE Java Black Cream Leather
4 Tech Power Flush
Lots of Wheel alignment
New tyres
Replaced a few small bits
So far so good
Nasty 7yr cam belt service next

I had a D4 for 2 years, the first one into Zambia . Best car I ever owned, had initial software glitch which was eventually sorted out. We also have prado,s and 100 series land cruisers the disco was a far better vehicle. Fitted extra fuel tank and rear wheel carrier which was a good addition for Africa. As with all Land rovers there will be the inevitable character building hiccups. As mentioned elsewhere as you drive out of the dealership toss out your Landrover jack and buy a decent 3 ton trolley jack, you won't regret it despite the extra weight.
Enjoy your D4 I m sure it won't disappoint you.

My D3 has had faults but the important is it has never left me standing. Worst thing happening was a brake light switch which would send it to the bump stops every 10 brakings but it always brought me home.
Surely there are faults that will stop it completely but from what you read on here, you will find that an ignition cycle is to the D3/4 what a reboot is to a Windows PC: magic.
I'm confident you will love the car and it will be reliable.

Toyota LC forum wrote:Can anyone suggest a cause for our 2006 30,000 mile Land cruiser invinsible needing a new engine, the car has a FTSH. We were driving back from France on the motorway when I felt a large vibration, plumes of smoke seen in rear view mirror. We got the car to a Toyota garage in France and they diagnosed faulty injectors. The injectors were replaced but the engine had same problem. The head was removed and the bore of cylinder no 4 was discovered to be very worn with nasty scratch marks. The car was recovered back to UK in pieces and the Toyota dealer in UK will not comment on cause of damage to the bore (neither will the toyota dealer in France!). The car was 3 months outside 3 yr manufacture warranty and the best Toyota offered was a new engine at cost and the labour charged at warranty rates, I have had a new engine put in at a total cost so far of £8,000. I would be very grateful for any views on what may have caused the damage to the bore, if the garage in France were correct in diagnosing faulty injectors then would that have caused the damage?
Thanks in advance
So, its not just Land Rover... Club 18 - 30 (I wish !!)
