Needed a replacement Tug that could drag the max 3.5ton.
Got say the D4 is one fine tool, will do every thing it says on tin. Siberian Silver, Ebony Leather, Commercial Con Pack, Bright Pack, Lux Pack, Sig Lights, suround Cameras, Tow Pack, Arm Rests pack, Runner Boards, etc, ect.

Besides the comfort, 4x4 capabilities, perma grin , and all else as mentioned before, it’s the D3’s presence on the road, people move out of your way a lot faster when you cruise up behind them on the motorway (they tend to hog the outside lane and crawl along here ) - absolutely love it

It started in the late-70s when my dad got his Cortina stuck in a ditch at Woburn Safari Park. It was towed out by a ranger in a zebra-striped Series Landy, who then gave me a trip round the park in it. Coolest car I'd ever seen...
Finally had a proper excuse to get one a few years back, to tow these:
However, after a family ski trip to the Alps in it this Xmas, it's time to upgrade to a D3 for long journeys

I bought the first one about 7 years ago. A defender 90 300tdi it was in the garage every other week...
Instead of giving up i went and bought an almost new td5 90.
Then the wife got pregnant and we decided to get a 110.
Wife pregnant again and and when my son was 9 months old we decided to get the disco 3.
We love defenders, my wife cried when we agreed the deal for the disco.
But we drive to Portugal a bit. (all the defenders went there) to Scotland and around this country.
The disco is by far the best. Im still smiling...

Dudes
Been into landies for years now, my first being an ex-royal marines S3 lightweight which I had for fifteen years I also had a freelander 2 for a bit and now have a D2 and a D3. Why have I got Discoveries ? They sit in between Defenders and Range rovers in the line up but have most of the assets of both.....though the lightweight was alot harder!
Wes My father was the keeper of the Eddystone light and slept with a mermaid one fine night.
From this union there sprang three, a Porpose, a Kipper and the other was Me

There's a phrase often bandied about the older motorcycling scene which is "If you have to ask you will never understand"..........

Maybe I will start a thread "Why did YOU sell your Land Rover ?". After 18 years and 4 different Land Rovers, I have now chopped it in. The resurrection of air suspension problems and another £800 bill was the final nail. TDV6 S Auto, Cairns Blue, Very Happy Indie who keeps it running
...oh, and a Mini Cooper S for the mid-life crisis
and an Orange EVO8 for the weekend, sir - the best 2x1 ba gum

It can take my family plus a couple of strays and all our kit almost anywhere we want to go in perfect comfort.
Love it.

Natural progression...from a couple of td5 disco2s to a d3 and now onto the d4 (on Saturday )
Why buy Land Rover? It gets in the blood. I've rebuilt a 110 from the ground up, the d2s were almost as easy to work on as the defenders. Unfortunately the increasing electronics in the D3s/4s means that DIY isnt as feasible.
Like a lot pf previous posters I strayed from the marque and tried other (jap) 4x4s which just didn't have that little spark that ignites the soul (or whatever James May says about fizzing). My Shogun threw a hissy fit every time 4wd was selected so it turned out to be less reliable than the D2 it replaced, and even SWMBO yearned for another Landie.
The seven seats in the D2 were fine but nothing surpasses those in the D3/4, very handy for the kids and their friends, it looks the danglies whether hip deep in mud or blinged to the hilt.
