Hi all,
Is there a definitive thread explaining what kit is needed based on what model/spec/year the LR vehicle is? I have seen various references to VPLFE0002 kits, and VPLFE0003 but the later cannot be used with other and is only applicable for 2007 models onwards.
I have D3 2006 (56) HSE, and therefore struggling to understand whether I need the VPLFE0002, and if so does that handle the changes apple made to the pins configurations, which is why I believe VPLFE0003 was released. Was it just the 2007 vehicle onwards where iPod connectivity was factory fitted, and therefore I would need VPLFE0002 fitting first.
The other questions I have are related to what functionality you get aside from being able to change track and volume via the steering wheel controls, i.e. do I still need access to the apple device for additional controls, and really only of note if I have to shell out £100's for the VPLFE0002 solution.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Paul

The VPLFE0002 (which is the FL ACM kit) works with the newer Apples, VPLFE0003 is just the lead that you need if you got an older ACM.
I have installed VPLFE0002 in my 2005 HSE and it works perfectly with my 3Gs (which i believe were the model they changed charge cable requirements for).
The installation instructions that comes with it are for FL but you should be able to find ACM installation instructions for the Disco on here.
Steering wheel controls for volume and tracks is basically what you get, and charging of course.
On the glove box unit you will also get RCA audio inputs and a USB port which lets yo play music stored on a memory stick.
It also has a switch that lets you bypass the ACM if you need to use the AUX input on the back of the cubby box.
If it's worth it is up to you Mods so far:
D4 Bluetooth module + mic + sterring wheel controls
ACM
BAS remap
Roof mount DVD
4x4 info activated

Thanks CJNE,
Can you confirm whether is uses any of the displays, be it SatNav or either of the LCD's?
Seems quite a steep price for such limited functionality. Supppose I was just spoilt with the previous Alpine unit I had, but didnt want to fit that as wanted to keep the esthetics of the dash, plus the bluetooth in the alpine was pretty naff.

It does not display information anywhere, that would have been nice though .
It's not connected to the vehicle CAN or MOST bus so it's "dumb" unit that has not interaction with the car other than the wheel controls, so yeah the price is pretty steep for the limited functionality.
I decided to go for it anyway since i really wanted to get good quality audio connectivity for my iPhone, which it is. Mods so far:
D4 Bluetooth module + mic + sterring wheel controls
ACM
BAS remap
Roof mount DVD
4x4 info activated

I use a Griffin "Auto Pilot". I think Tesco direct sell them. It's the wired (not the FM) type and takes the input from your charging socket, boosts it from the 12v plug (and charges your iPod at the same time) and then sends a 3.5mm jack audio lead to the Disco input. It works well IMHO.
As it sits discreetly in the 12v socket next to the driver, it's easy to reach & use the iPod-style controls. And a bit cheaper.

Had a play about with connections today and was somewhat surprised that iPod connected via AUX cannot be selected/heard on the rear audio connectors. Is that normal and if so would this be resolved with the aforementioned ACM kits, as this would give more justification to the additional costs.

Try to hold the mode button down a little while and see if you can get the aux input selected. Don't know if it has anything to do with the ACM but it works for me... Mods so far:

Been doing a little more research on a more complete solution and came cross the following products from NAV-TV, they are not cheap, but they do suggest they integrate fully with the touchscreen, so might be worth the extra. Has anyone had any experience with them and confirm whether they are as fully integrated as the sale patter suggests?
This is just audio - http://nav.tv/products/audio-input-mostaux-rov?car=131
This is audio and video - http://nav.tv/products/audio-visual-input-opv-1lr?car=131
If the video demo is anything to go by the second option although pricey does seem to do exactly what I'm after.
The next step then is to determine what else I'd need to purchase, as it makes reference to he MOST cable, I know there is a plug and play version available via this forum, but is this something that would of been already installed on specific models, or its required regardless? The next steps then is whether as the above links state I will see the extra icon automatically on the screen, or whether I'd need to speak to Wiggs/Geoff about their faultmate magic.
Looking forward to your feedback chaps, as am hoping that the above is what it seems to suggest and fills in the gaps between D3 connectivity and the newer D4. Regards

That is exactly what i am after too. Has anyone looked any further into this? Ive just gone from a VW Media in dock, so not being able to control my i pod and see what tracks im playing is a bit of a downer. Ive looked into the acm, but would pay extra for full control and the extras!

I called nav-tv a couple of weeks ago and they are bringing a new product to market which seems to be a complete solution, and will Leo have capability to connect a reversing camera. I have asked to be put on their mailing list so now just waiting for details on final price and availability. I'll update this post as soon as I have an update Regards

I've got this system in my HSE. It was installed to provide DVD viewing and was nothing but a pain in the derrier when it came to adding additional functionality i.e. Reversing Camera.
Despite several attempts to get it to work, including extended dialogue with Wiggs, I could not get it to meet my needs.
To cut a long story short, I've had to replace it with a GVIF unit (courtesey of Ian - Hids4U)
Luckily, I didn't pay for the original, it was in the car when I bought it.
