| Charge Ipod in Discovery 4 |
|
Hi
I am the owner of a Discovery 4 year model 2010.
I have trouble charge the iPod / iPhone using the original cable from Land Rover. Have tried the same thing in model year 2011 and then it works. Does anyone know what the difference in the sound system on these two model years. It's very annoying not being able to charge my iPod in the car, when I can play music from my iPod.
Hope someone has a solution or a good explanation.

It charges fine, never noticed a problem.

Yes, the original D4s had the old wiring pin out for the iPod, either get a "Scosche" converter from Amazon or if on later models it works check with the dealer to see whether they have a revised version on the connector cable.
Be warned the Scosche converters aren't cheap, but work well

Connects2 now do a charging adapter (CTIPOD) which is significantly less than a Scosche

We have tried with both my original cable -10 and original cable from model 2011th And we get the same results. independent of the cable I can not charge in my car. But it works fine in the car by 2011 regardless of which cable I use. So there is probably a difference in the electronics.

The problem was in the circuitry not the cable - pretty poor really! You'll need one of the adapters I'm afraid

I had exactly the same problem with my 2010MY FFRR
In the end I ordered a new LR ipod/usb socket from Dan @ Duckworth last Friday for tad over 40 quid, it arrived on Tuesday, I swapped it with the original and all works fine including charging now.
Here's the link that expained it for me
http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic...p;start=15
As previous posts have already stated its not the cable thats the issue is the wiring in the socket itself. LR revised the wiring and updated the socket mid 2010 - I am sure the same applies to a D4

I haven't had the problem charging an iPod in either the MY09 Jag XF or the MY11 D4 but the charging part doesn't play nicely with the iPhone which does require a 3rd party solution. As far as the iPod is concerned, the system won't charge a completely flat iPod so if you intsalled it flat or have left it in the car for several weeks (I've left my D4 unused for 5 weeks with a nano connected ok) then it won't charge. Try charging the iPod and then look to see if the D4 maintains the charge with regular use. Disco 4 HSE SD V6

| Solution to iphone not charging on a discovery 4 - 2010 year |
|
OK - so here is the solution to get an iPhone charging on an older Discovery 4 (to confirm wahts said above). Mine is a 2010 model. I followed the instructions on th RR site and changed the socket that the iphone plugs into. It unclips relatively easily. For about 45 quid the part number for the socket is LR021802.

I guess my D4 had a problem - it was an early one - maybe i should have asked under warranty! My other LR is a defender 110XS auto with overdrive and uprated turbo.

Many thanks to this post -
My iphone would also not charge with my D4 build date 08/09/09 so ended up getting a new port (from TLO) and all is OK now.

Don't leave it plugged in on charge all the time though - i've wrecked the battery on my ipod touch. I try and use the bluetooth function now.
