On the Auto,

One thing that I always do, whether this improves mpg or not I dont know... should do, is use Command shift up to 3rd gear manually.

It drives me MAD how in most cases it just holds onto that 3rd gear for so long and just sits at 2,000 rpm or more for ages without changing up.

As a rule, I change relatively early from 1st to 2nd then into 3rd then knock it back into Auto. You would't rev all the way over 2,000 rpm in a manual anyway really in 1st/2nd... well... I wouldn't. 1,800 and up quickly.

Labouring in 4th wont help obviously.

Just noticed this, haven't read it all do don't know if anyone else as found but.............

Had a couple of bits & pieces done by Bosdy via his Fautmate gizmo, basically lights on indicator, clock in the dash and resetting the gearbox. Took this pic afterwards (well my co-driver did Whistle ). Notice the mpg! This was on the way back from the D3C Chrimbo event, reset at the beginning of the M27 to J10 M25, 70 miles or so. On the way out trip was reset once on the M25 and clocked once off the A303, driving style was identical, 60mpg on cruise most of the way, and the mpg was showing 28.8, I know with the vagaries of the trip comp but assuming the vagaries are the same what a difference. Gearbox/car also feels lot smoother and car feels a lot better. Both using the same fuel, French Total super diesel.

Weird or what but the only real difference is the gearbox reset, I can't imagine dragging the car through 40 miles of Salisbury gloop did anything to help mpg. Do do, do do! (to the tune of the X-Files). Shocked

Interesting stuff. Bought mine in August, its an 06 TDV6 HSE and was originally showing 26.5mpg, it very soon dropped to 22.5 and has varied little since.

I should've had it in for a service ten days ago, mileage is now 102k and according to the book and the dealer the service ought to be the 90k one??

Would anyone be able to give me guidance on (a) how much the service should cost if carried out to the LR spec and; (b) should I expect to see an uplift in the MPG?

Thanks in advance Mr. Green

I hope you have been saving for that service, it should be the big one, 105k with cam belts. How can a dealer say it is due a 90k mile service at 102k??? Confused
