I can assure you mine was the correct way up and the cable end fitted properly and they still apparently had it away with minimal difficulty!

For all forum members. Discount on genuine LR parts from Yeovil Land Rover a site sponsor. Search for The Large One or just call Nick Lee at Yeovil LR. Excellent service.

So which way is the 'right way'?
Just fitted my full size spare with the alloy rim facing upwards. Figured it would be less susceptible to damage that way.

there was some time back a fix that used an anti nicking tube that prevented the issue
not that many details on here though as it was thought public domain

Spoke to Nick at Yeovil.
As expected, I got fantastic advise and service. Only yesterday, I ordered a new D4 winch rather than the straight D3 replacement on Nick's recommendation and it arrived today.
It is far more secure than the D3 one due to the solid steel collar around the spring and was a fair bit cheaper too. This, togetehr with the 20% forum member discount, meant that sorting out this stolen wheel has been a lot less painful than I expected, both in hassle and cost.
Cheers Nick.

Same thing has happened to me this weekend, so have been in contact with Nick (for replacement winch) and Ray (for protector).
Any ideas where to get a replacement 19" 6 spoke alloy with tyre for D3 HSE? Thinking about buying a set from a certain auction site and selling the other three. Any thoughts, other than it is probably funding the market that encourages the spares to be nicked in the first place?

Thanks woody32. I'll have no use for the winch so you are welcome to it. The replacement is currently out of stock with Land Rover (via TLO) so may be a little while until I can fit it - I guess this is becoming far too common.
PM me and I'll give you my address details for collection.

Woody,
I'm afraid I too am taking the opportunity to butcher my old one and am trying to make some modifications.
Sorry.

Mine was nicked too; I joined this forum just so I could contact RLD to purchase one of his magic devices.
I've decided to go for a spacesaver replacement - can't see the point in spending the extra £££ for a new alloy wheel which will (hopefully) never get used.

DG wrote:Dave ..yes a D4 wheel will fit a D3 Check whether its a 19 or 20" though to get the best match with your own set As Uncle Ray (RLD) says you would be wise to invest in one of these magnificent protectors
PM RLD for details
I'm just about to fit my RLD protector. The one in your photo is fitted with some trim around the edge - what is it and where can you get it from MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Finally got round to fitting the new winch at the weekend. PM sent with address for collection if you still want the old one for 'research' purposes.
Cheers
